Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Weird, I have actually spent a few hours this weekend mentally picking and choosing songs for exactly this!

I was a little sad to see my favorite song from The Hot Rock not represented ("Quarter To Three"), but there's soooooo many good ones to choose from on that album that I get it.

Why nothing from the first EP? I have "The Day I Went Away," "How To Play Dead," "Lora's Song," and "The Last Song" on the short-list for my own playlist.
Thank you for checking it out!

I love Quarter to Three! It is one of my favorites of THR. Why didn't I put it on the playlist? I honestly don't remember. I made that playlist back in the days of Voldemort. My thought process was to have a few songs from each album and to try to have the playlist as a whole show how they matured/progressed through the years. But to also have the best representation of SK on the playlist. And also to have the most accessible songs for first time SK listeners on the playlist. I guess I didn't think Quarter to Three has that usual sound so I thought it would throw people off? I also find the first EP to be harder for people unfamiliar with SK to access. I feel like they are more deep cuts.

My Phoenix arrived this week, and the spindle hole is ridiculously small- it couldn't get onto the spindle at all. I took photos, and I'm emailing them about it...
Looks like a job for one of those ridged pens

was told this by CS and several people on here after I had the similar on Blossome Dearie - get a BIC pen and twirl it around...

CS did send me a replacement though btw, much to amazement of many forum members. I think that might have had more to do with the bashed up corners though.

My spindle hole is quite small as well. I had to use a little more pressure than usual.

After I deflowered it, it felt fine on subsequent plays. 😂
This was my experience as well...once I got it on (and off) the first time, I didn't have much problem putting the record on the spindle again. And it sounds great, so I'm reasonably pleased.

The pen trick didn't work, but I have a little knife that I could spin around a few times and shave just enough for it to fit. Sounded great... But I still complained to CS first, because I could.

Jesus, just read through this thread to find out SK is gonna be AOTM. Of course they are, after I pre-ordered the album a week ago.

It's funny to see a transplant get caught in the cross-hairs of a WA vs. OR rivalry (although in my experience it's 90% Portland vs. Seattle). I knew the second I read @Teeeee post about them being named after a road in OR, somebody would set the record straight (I was expecting more napalm) and the pissing on Portland - Seattle's perpetual little brother - would commence. Nice work @TenderLovingKiller®. I've lived in this area all my life, and we treat SK with the same reverence outsiders assign to the grunge scene and us, so it's super strange to come to the realization that SK is not a household name band, that's universally adored by everyone. Inside this bubble they are unimpeachable icons that feel omnipresent. I remember watching the first season of Portlandia and kind of wanting to hate it, because I felt like it was one more reason we weren't getting new SK material (put a F*cking bird on a new SK album!).

And @Teeeee I think your suggestion for a newcomer to the SK world is spot on. DMO was my transition from "Yeah, they're cool" to "OH F*CK close ALL borders out of state - especially to f*cking Portland - and let's keep SK to ourselves!" If you can listen to One More Hour without a full body wave of tingles, you might be a sociopath.

What the hell even are the clues

I barely use reddit so my interest has gone kerplunk
Hint 1 & 2:

Two of the three records are made by artists with Latin American roots (my fact checking might be a bit off here, it turns out.)

Two of the three records were made either in New York City, or very close to it.

Hint 3:

Extreme closeup, a deli, smoke cloud.

Hint 4:

One ROTM comes from a guy with a name that starts with a W. Another comes from a guy who is also in a group that starts with a W. The final one comes from a guy who added an addendum to his name at a later date.

Per storf. Just in case anyone cares at all.

I have no idea how to match those clues to SK.
