Has no one mentioned Pavement - Terror Twilight ? this came out in 1999 and Pavement has been hinting on a repress for awhile..
That would be cool but I’m not going to get my hopes up. If they are going to reissue it, I’m pretty sure it will be more widespread. I’m really hoping for a box set like Brighten the Corners though I’m not really sure what sort of B Sides and Rarities exist.

Yeah I would assume matador would do a bigger box of some sort, but I could see them maybe doing a 2x version. I also know a few weeks back that 2022 tour was announced so maybe?

People have been saying dismemberment plan, and while that is a big album in a lot of circles, I don't know how exciting that would be for a more general audience. I'm in dc and even during the last reunion, tickets were easy to come by whenever they played here post that first reunion show (and this is where they are from)

Yeah frankly I don’t see either of them being ROTM but who knows. Both are good but Emergency & I is a better album imo and we all know popularity doesn’t really mean a whole lot in their ROTM selections.

Yeah I mean to be honest the final pavement record is the only pavement record I like, I think the other pavement stuff is just...not for me

I agree D-plan is a better record, and that certainly VMP can go for things not as popular, but D-plan's legacy is honestly based off that record, and as great as it is, more so due to the fact how highly pitchfork reviewed it and has ranked it. I certainly don't see people talking about Change in the same way, and for sure not the reunion record. I think if D-plan had a string of great records, Emergency and I would have a chance.

While there are certainly people that missed out on those D-Plan reissues, for the most part, the people that hold the album up as high as the pitchforks of the world, I think got a copy (trust me, I believe it should be in print, but I get why it is not)

I also think with Desoto's connection to Dischord, if they wanted to do a reissue they would work with Dischord, and in a way with that connection, I don't see them having any relationship with VMP

Now Matador obviously has had some relationship with VMP in the past. The pavement thing would be a bigger get, and if we are talking "indie rock" we both know, (at least for me) that is the band I think of for the most part, but I think you are right , we don't know if there is enough there for a deluxe version really, and two, it's not like that is the crown jewel for the causal pavement fan (there are some oddballs like me though where that album is...)

This might belong in the hot takes thread. Pavement is one of my all time favorite groups and I love Terror Twilight but I would say Terror Twilight my is usually at the bottom of most fans lists but I guess if you’re not much of a fan of the band anyways maybe that makes sense.

Yeah every Pavement fan I talk to about that record thinks I'm being edgy, but I have felt this way since the album came out in 1999. I think Stephen is a good song writer, but I am not into slacker rock/most indie rock. But I also get why people hold that band up so high

I am curious what VMP are categorizing as 90s Indie rock. This could give me a good belly laugh.
Any of these might qualify:

Built To Spill - Keep it like a secret
Songs: Ohio - Axxess & Ace
Ben Folds Five - Unauthorized Biography Of Reinhold Mrssner
American Football - American Football (1)
Blink 182 - Enema of the State

I’d like it to be (but it’s not):

I either already own a copy or I wouldn’t care to own a copy of all those save for Ben Folds Five. My interest would be probably piqued if that were the selection but also, I would probably just wait 4 or 5 months until a wider reissue was made available than fucking with VMP again.

When I perused the 1999 list - these were the only releases on the "Indie"/"VMPs Idea of Essentials" Venn Diagram that had not been mentioned that I saw.

I have the BFF.
One can obtain Songs: Ohia for $17.99.

I'd only sign back up for the Mathew Sweet b/c it'd be the 1st Press of that sneaky great album... but would prefer to wait for Intervention Records to take up that mantle.

If anyone is excited thinking that VMP might reissue Built To Spill - Keep it Like a Secret, just buy this readily available version. VMP won't be able to improve on it
Yeah, I concur. It’s pretty much perfect (from now on).

Believe it is AAA and mastered by Kevin Gray. So yeah...don't think anyone really needs VMP/GZ to touch that title.

The analog spark version of reinhold messner is fantastic. It is a shame his records are all OOP now although I think self-titled was marked as a preorder at acoustic sounds last I checked
