Vinyl Me Please Essentials

mac demarco is a possibility for February but i have a huge hunch its grimes visions.. it seems like something they'd do.. even if grimes has become a pure joke (especially with that last single being "in love with the greatest gamer")

Wow of all the amazing "Indie Rock" albums to come out in 2012, Mac Demarco has to be the most middle-of-the-road uninspired pick. All three of these sound like something you'd get in a Newbury email (Hey, we're pressing color versions of Mac Demarco, Sigur Ros and Modest Mouse! Yep, same master that you'll find in stores!). Just feels lazy. idk what else I expected, it's 2021 vmp.

Edit: Grimes is kind of an awful pick too, and would really feel like capitalizing on tabloid headlines, but would mostly be strange as that isn't "rock" in the slightest.

Lonesome Crowded West - 1997 OG pressing, repress in 2014 on black, 2 color variants in 2014 as well, a third color variant in 2015, and then one last black repress in the last couple years.
Just did a look around for this one and had a hard time finding one. Amazon resellers were charging hundreds.

This is what we have right?

January – 1999 Indie Rock, 4 members, Iceland (Sigor Ros – Ágætis Byrjun)
February – 2012 Indie Rock, 1 Member, Montreal (Grimes – Visions)
March – 1997 Indie Rock, 3 Members, Pacific Northwest (Built to Spill – Perfect from Now On)

Solid trio of Indie Rock. Have Sigor Ros and BtS on CD, not sure I need to upgrade. Especially Sigor Ros if it's pressed at GZ.

Second one is some debate with Mac Demarco and third one is most likely Modest Mouse.

Newbury did do exclusives of Mac Demarco 2 and Modest Mouse LCW already, so you're about spot on.

At least you can see how one gets there.
I mean, I guess? I think of Post Rock as being heralded by groups like Bark Psycosis and (later era)Talk Talk, and other artists who I don't at all associate with Indie Rock in the slightest. Artists who see their music more akin to fine art than the guitar driven radio stuff that would soon dominate the genre. It's a hard argument to make.

I'm a Grimes stan, and I'm not afraid to say it, so bring on Visions baby!!!
it took me a while to enjoy visions.. at first i fucking hated the song oblivion because that synth line was so obnoxious and it was so peppy i felt like i was listening to one of the other annoying overly teenage pop songs like girlfriend by avril lavigne.. i understand it a lot more now but i much prefer art angels

I swear I just bought that Modest Mouse record last year at my local for 30 Canadian dollars, it's the one reissued by the band and I'm happy with it.

I can't see myself dropping international pricing on a fancy GZ pressed colour variant... This is my montra this month... We'll see how that works out...
