Vinyl Me Please Essentials

Never got into Bruce, tried numerous times and it never clicked. Tried again with Nebraska last night and it still doesn't click.

I love the Beastie Boys but am happy with my current copy and would only jump on the VMP version if it's just a colour version of the boxset that just came out...

As for Bobby D... another one that never clicked with me...

Not a very good stretch for me personally but that's ok, I can just spend that money on filling holes in my collection!

Weird stretch for me too. I actually own all three already. Grabbing Nebraska as my copy could really use an upgrade. I'll likely upgrade Blonde on Blond too as my copy of that is also a little rough. Really happy with my current copy of Check Your Head, however, so not sure what I'll do there. Mostly just feels weird to swap an album I love that much. Not seeing too much I really want to swap for either, so might just grab a copy and pass it along to a friend for the holidays or something. All in all, not a bad stretch of releases at all. And I'm sure lots of people are gonna flip for these picks. Just an odd one for me as it's the first time VMP has ever gone three in a row with stuff I already own.

It's definitely a balance that VMP is trying to strike, especially in essentials. I'm still in my vinyl infancy compared to most of you, so I like stretches like this where each album would be a great fit in my collection. I do think this will bring the masses, which is their goal, but I understand my excitement might not be felt by others.

How are you getting yours via CP when we're all out here dealing with TForce and Apple?

Not sure. Maybe because I live outside of the GTA is all I can think of.

On the tracking it went right from DHL to Canada Post

Things only switched from Canada Post to TForce out in Victoria about a year ago, right at the tail end of my membership. Chapters/Indigo just switched from Canada Post to TForce in the past month or two...

I know TForce delivers here because I have seen them around and have had them deliver Chapters orders. Strange.

Logistics is a stranger business then it oughtta be.

Like, why is my package from Poland that came through Montreal on the 12th expected to arrive on Friday but my package from Halifax that came through Montreal on the 11th isn't due until NEXT Thursday? None of that even makes any sense at all! 🤣 🤯

Bloke who picked it up to sort on the 11th went out for a few beers and called in sick the next day…

The new one? I thought it was really average, not shit like the two prior, but kinda not good either. Think he might be in terminal decline and that it’s time to tune out, for me at least anyway…

I kind of like the new one (really disliked the last one though), but I have to say I was lukewarm on it until I heard the vinyl. I picked up the vinyl on a whim at a good discount and was surprised at how much better it sounds compared to the streaming versions. The instruments seem to breathe more on vinyl. Streaming felt like a sound attack to me. Anyway... my two cents.

So I'm spending some time with Interpol... the mix is definitely an improvement over my single-LP copy. Pressing is better too. But it's probably not much of a hot take to say GZ is better than NRP. Anyway, it's not flawless. The sides all have crackle in the run-in, stopping/fading when the music starts for the most part. Except for side D where it lasts a little longer than I'd like in the quiet opening of The New.

This is not one of those pressings that "wow" me. I feel like the mix could have used more L/R width to open it up. I guess this is how this album always sounded though. But overall, this is probably as good as this album has ever sounded.
