Vinyl Me Please Essentials

I don’t think someone outside can sully by being influenced. Seriously, it’s a great album. Some of his melancholies take a back seat to more grown up fair, he’d gotten married and had a kid. Crush (note not Crash) is one of the all time great love songs. The album grooves with a big cinematic sound.

My fandom has fallen off over the years but the magic of this album still has me check their new stuff out hoping they reach its heights again.

I’m not sure they’ll ever reach that height again and that’s ok. Dave’s lyrical content isn’t the same. Even though Jeff Coffin does a fine job, I’m not sure what he brings creatively to the studio. There have been some really good songs on the albums post Busted Stuff but not front to back. I know they have a new album on the way but maybe it’s time to end the studio work and just continue to flourish as a live band.

also remember that the march ROTM is supposed to be a bit of a surprise in that "wow they are actually doing it"... i am guessing they are going with the lauryn as the shocker (despite them already working with fugees but i am guessing "approved by lauryn herself" would be hard to get), but if there is any gets that seem very difficult or surprising then think about that for the march release.

If following this thread has taught me anything the “wow they’re actually doing it” will be a 10th anniversary repress of yeezus.

They can hype the hell out of the being the only official vinyl release of the album and soak up all the controversy of amplifying a problematic voice. In July 2020, they put out John Mayer in Essentials. They commemorated one year of Covid and the beginning of widespread vaccination efforts by putting out MIA in April 2021. February 2022 was Grimes. 2023 will be the year of Kanye. I’m not saying that they’re deliberately trolling - but they definitely make no effort to avoid controversial artists with a recent history of problematic attention-seeking behavior.

I see what you're saying....but nah, I think Kanye is donezo. If he pumped the brakes maybe a couple of months ago I could agree, but nope. Dude's a black Ted Nugent now.

I agree. I don't think VMP is getting anywhere near Kanye after recent events. I don't see how he comes back from this.
Nope. Even as @Ericj32 suggests purely for the controversy.

Erase the racism, you're still left with a history of abusive behavior, gaslighting and controlling Kim which is problematic on its own.

No way in hell VMP touches Kanye with a 40ft pole, and to quote Mather here "You're on drugs" if you think otherwise (no offense intended).

And I'm saying this as someone with a decent Kanye collection.

I absolutely don’t agree with Kanye’s manic/problematic behavior and think he needs to hit rock bottom before he would ever consider getting the help he needs. I love his music but am not gonna be supporting in any way until he takes the necessary steps to get his mental state in check.

I can say with almost 100% certainty that someone like Kanye doesn't believe he has an issue and will never get any kind of help.

Sadly I think death is the only way to salvage anything of his legacy. At least then you can refer to him as some tragic figure and build a narrative around that.

Five years from now he'll probably only land Trump rally gigs.
