Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Do we agree that the clue is from a specific Classics album from 2020? There seems to be some confusion about that on reddit.

Some people are just doing artist and some going back a full year.

I’m not sure what’s unambiguous about it:

“In RHH, the ROTM samples a Classics ROTM from the last six months.”

Doesn’t say artist, but the ROTM specifically.

Oh, not sure why some went further than 6 months then. Yeah that was my interpretation too.

Edit: So, Mr. Hands through Sahara I guess, assuming Storf meant the last 6 classics pick. Less Mr. hands if he actually knew what day it was and meant time wise.

Yeah, and if I were a gambling man, I'd say it's gonna sample Patrice since her album has literally been sampled hundreds of times. Although color me impressed if it ended up sampling Erroll Garner instead.

According to Whosampled, '95 albums from above that sampled the following:

Mr. Hands: None?

Aretha Now: None?

Rushen - Straight from the Heart:
Doug E. Fresh
Mobb Deep
Faith Evans (would be a bad RHH pick, didn't list it above for that reason)
Alliance Ethnik

Immortal Otis:
Capleton

Garner - Magician: None

King Things: None

Sahara: None

Obviously Whosampled doesn't have everything though.

Other ones that Storf could have missed include ODB (yeah, right), Lord Finesse, Junior MAFIA. Edit: oh and Mack 10

I agree with this assessment.

The Capleton album was on Def Jam (Rush Associated), so I guess it is now a top candidate.

Reggae hip hop, great.

Someone please tell me there's a sample from one of these albums in DJ Krush's Meiso. I really want it to be Krush.

Since the 7 applied in Classics to the size of the group, does it stand to reason that 1 applies to a solo artist?

That's the conventional wisdom on it.

I mean I just heard about the dude today and sharing what I’m learning. I’m not clutching my pearls about a stray word. I’m seeing lyrics like this:

“Shoulda know seh Capleton bun battyman
You should know that Capleton burns queers
“Dem same fire apply to di lesbian
The same fire applies to lesbians
“Seh mi bun everything from mi know seh dem gay
Say, I burn everything as long as I know that they’re gay
“All boogaman and sodemites fi get killed
All queers and sodomites should be killed”

That’s not the same as Mobb Deep or Eminem, to me. but whatever. If you all knew about this and are like “that’s what the dude sings” or don’t want to judge him or his culture or whatever, that’s fine with me. I’m not trying to organize a boycott. I just don’t like it so this album is a pass for me.

It's not going to be him. It seems a large leap to give this a pass and to put a ban on Nas lol

Having a hard time imagining them justifying why Play is worth having. So hope that either they redo The Infamous, which would be silly, or that Storf missed Lord Finesse maybe?

Maybe I should go back to hoping it's the wrong year and they somehow got Organized Konfusion and it will be their best pick yet? Haha.

Edit: oh yeah I think someone guessed that on reddit too, nevermind.
