Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Speaking of hip hop adjacent acts... you guys know this one? Spinning it right now. It's definitely much more drum and bass than hip hop but it was huge when it came out in 97.

I have this version of it...
Also this is the best music video ever...

Yep that video is all shot in downtown Toronto. That's like all my hood.

And I wanted that new remaster but I couldn't find it, then luckily I found the OG 4 LP.

The it’s my re-up month. If I’m interpreting the deal offered, my record price goes from $27 to $29-something for this period. I’m in for that, particularly for a never-before-on-vinyl Ghostface. The real stinker is the huge increase for add-ons. I was on the fence for Spiritualized, thinking why not, I might grow to like it. But now I’m like....eh, nope.

we gonna need our own hip hop album of the month like the N&G album of the month
It’s not a bad Idea. I bet the heads on here could do a better job at curation anyhow.

I think this is a great idea. Many of you know a lot about Hip Hop records and I'm sure you would curate records that are on 🔥. I definitely would love some N&G Rap Hip Hop monthly curation.

Some amazing songs on it. I just call it a soundtrack though as opposed to official outkast album so as to not ruin their otherwise perfect discography lol Aquemini is the best outkast album imo
Agree here. I like Idlewild a lot, and own it - but don't really consider it an official Outkast album. I like a lot of the songs better than stuff on Speakerboxxx/Love Below.

the hard part of selling these more B/C tier albums (funkdafied, salt-n-peppa, fly or die, honest)... sure they are getting cool reissues but the thing is we are not getting stuff worth 33 dollars... 20 dollars is pretty normal for a standard colored vinyl and fancy album, it was almost the perfect price for the quality of album they were giving us. but 33 is when you are getting into "ok you might want to consider if you really want this". apollo kids is probably a perfect choice but is it worth 33 bucks

I think that's going to be down to personal preference. For me Apollo Kids is for sure worth 33 bucks but SnP no way... my issue with the tracks is the mark up is massive. If it went from 23 to 27 you would still hate that its gone up but its only up by 4 dollars so less likely to complain or leave VMP. The fact it jumped a whole 10 bucks is crazy 😮

My one track R&HH & because I'm international has gone from 40 dollars to 52. Then if I want to add classics and essentials which I do from time to time its now 33 per track as opposed to 23 its madness. 3 tracks = 96 dollars for me. Going forward it would be 118 😢

Are you not a fan of SB/TLB? Do you like either project separately?
I am definitely a fan. But, like most, it is in 5th place in my album ranks (Idlewild being last)

BUT! Songs like "Mighty O" and Morris Brown" feel more old school Kast' to me than most the tracks on SB/TLB.

To be clear, SB/TLB was the anthem of my senior year in HS.

Edit: Other songs I REALLY like on Idlewild:

Idlewild Blue
Life Is A Musical
Buggface (maybe my favorite)
In Your Dreams

You know what....Idlewild might be heavily underrated because I love all those tracks you named and also N2U, Peaches & Hollywood Divorce too 🔥🔥🔥

I have the 2009 and it's also excellent. It's Garland at NRP which in general would be a step down from BG but it sounds very good somehow... I imagine not much was changed from the OG master. Imma' spin it when I get home from work.
If that one sounds great, maybe it is just a credit to how good the recording/original master is, which is certainly not the case with a lot of hip hop.

Yep, I mean Outkast is the first hop hop group where I noticed that they were originally mixed by Bernie Grundman. I'm sure there are others but they seem to have had really strong mastering from day one. Which definitely helps. I'd love to hear a comparison between the OG Aquemini and the 2009 pressing.
