Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

De La 3ft is what hooked me along with ATCQ right after. I wore out a couple 3ft tapes while mowing lawns over that summer. Definitely had a PE phase (Apocalypse 91 was my shit). Beastie Boys never hooked this white kid, and then I was all in on Wu, Red, Boot Camp, etc after that. But it's crazy how the genre just exploded coming out of the 80's into the first half of the 90's.
For me there was a definite shift from all the Metallica, Pearl Jam and Nirvana t-shirts to Beastie Boys and Public Enemy shirts among the white crowd sometime around 92-93.

It definitely is a mixed bag. Hip hop IMO definitely grew stronger in the 90s. Late 80s were still trying to really figure everything out, but you definitely had some stone cold classics, but they were fewer and farther in between.

EDIT: Going through my collection I think I only have Straight Outta Compton, Paul's Boutique, Fear of a Black Planet, Yo...Bum Rush the Show and The Great Adventures of Slick Rick - which is not to say that's all there was, just most of my hip hop collection is 90s and early 2000s.

EDIT 2: Forgot a whole lot of albums I had.
My go to 80s is Eric B & Rakim. Paid In Full and Follow The Leader are certified classics in my book and damn near flawless. I actually enjoy Follow The Leader more 🤷‍♂️

Those are definitely what I would consider stone cold classics. BDP and KRS as well. Just never had the chance to add any of those to my collection. I do think I can snag at least one or two from some locals...just there was always something else I want you know?

I feel you. I kind of did the same thing for awhile. I actually just grabbed FTL from a local I walked into and they had a copy of the Gold one sealed.

Now I need to go find that green Paid In Full to package with it.

I also just saw someone mention on Reddit that Fort Minor - The Rising Tied also fits the clue for September so technically not confirmed Game, though I'm certainly hoping for it as I have the Coke Bottle one already
Saw that too, but at this point I'd be willing to put money on the three picks put out there.

I cannot see a future in which the VMP offices stand if Gravediggaz doesn't happen.

Fatlip fits the clues for 2005 and so does M.E.D. but I can't see it being either of those!

I don't think anything else fits for the other 2 soooooooo here we are...

Labcabin sounds kinda bad…. Like the vocals are hot, reference first verse of She Said, borderline harsh vocal mastering it sounds like. Am I mistracking? Can someone confirm?

Might walk some criticism back, revisiting this morning and Labcabin sounds far better.

I ran it through the HG when I received it yesterday and put it straight on the platter afterwards, I usually don’t have excess static after a cleaning but I’m wondering yesterday if there was static running interference on vocals and making them sound kinda fried. Today it’s listenable 🤷🏼‍♂️

Ahhhh, I just saw this and I’m so much more happy!

Do you like the sound of the pressing? I’ll be comparing it to the Craft reissue, but I’m happy to hear that it sounds at least good now after giving the record a deep clean!
