Vinyl Me Please Rap & Hip Hop

Really appreciate that they are putting effort into the RHH listening notes. Gary Suarez is doing the Gravediggaz one. He is a great writer with a cool newsletter called Cabbages where he highlights lower profile and underground hip hop.

Also these booklets are so much nicer that they actually make it seem like a premium product instead of a cheap stencil I will never use or a cheap cute little book full of typos written by storf.

I wouldn't mind the little books if they had writing like the RHH booklets TBH. Storf doesn't do all the writing in the little books and they're not absolute shit, but yeah mostly the writing is not necessarily amazing or incisive.

Yeah, don't get me wrong, some of them I have are pretty great and by actual professional writers, but definitely not the standard.

I distinctly remember that there was something else I wanted more the month Tical dropped so I said to myself, "I'll wait and get Tical in swaps next month."

There was no Tical in swaps next month. 😭

I have the most recent black reissue of Tical. Could anyone speak to the differences between that and this VMP version? The pressing I have sounds alright, nothing to write home about. I wonder if VMP’s pressing is any better.

Color. The jacket is fancier too. I don’t have any other version to compare it too but the VMP version sounded fine. I have no gripes.

When it came out, word around town was that it was just a colour repress of the previously released, widely available black version, which is why I didn’t bite. So, I can’t comment on the sound quality. I don’t recall any comments about it sounding particularly special. Hopefully it’s decent though, for anyone grabbing it.
