I personally do not think that they check it at all. I assume they take the money and don't look back. There are lots of sellers on ebay and discogs with tons of copies of VMP albums and exclusives (Vinceron comes to mind). We have also seen the "glitches" where VMP's system was telling Saddle Creek that one person bought 25 copies of something like The Infamous and it went unchecked.

We'll find out soon enough. Sadly, I think flippers were all over this one.
That sucks. I guess once the orders been processed it just goes straight to the factory for shipping as well.

Bit of a side rant, but I was actually chatting to some mates the other day about the monetary 'value' of records and how crazy its become. We dabble in stocks as a bit of fun and I was saying how I have started to list the Median price of my more valuable records in the notes section of the discogs listing. So I can see the change in value over the months, just fout of interest. They seemed to accept the bigger ones which are of a certain age (the examples I gave were Blue Notes, Lee Morgan's Vol.3, The Cooker, City Lights, Leeway, and Jutta Hipp, etc), but once I told them about Frank Ocean's Blond they just lost it. They couldn't believe that anyone would pay into the hundreds for a record that was released just a few years ago. I know Blond isnt a great example here, but flippers certainly seem to have made the most of this unfortunately.

It seems suspect to me that that Oliver Nelson sold out as quickly as it did. I know 300 isn’t a lot but come on. There’s no shot something screwy wasn’t going on there in my mind. That being said, I wouldn’t have bought it anyway. I’m grateful for the opportunity to learn of this album as it’s absolute fire, but I’m comforted by the fact that my clear variant direct from LITA will likely arrive on time and in pristine condition. That being said, if that VMP one turns out to look anywhere near like the mockup, it will be the coolest one of the very limited lot. But we all know there’s maybe a 20% chance of that happening.

300 just needs 150 people to buy 2 copies. Not that shocked that it sold out quickly seeing the response just the cover and mockup had yesterday on reddit. And it's a pretty popular album in terms of having a cult following. I remember seeing Peanut Butter Wolf or somebody spinning it a long time ago and it's been on my wantlist ever since I heard one of the tracks. I always looked for it out in the wild but never came across a good copy. I think ya made a good call though ordering direct through LITA.

Yeah you’re probably right. Just seems in a general sense (and I may be wrong as I haven’t been paying super close attention) like things are hanging around a lot longer than they used to. This did have a little buzz on reddit though. I saw that too. Also sounds as though through certain links there was no limit on quantity which could help explain it. At 300 the limit should have been 1 honestly.

Was definitely some flipping going on, but I'm not sure how rampant it was on this one. There was a lot of hype. Not as sustained hype as something like Still Woozy, but with only 300 I had a feeling this would fly off the shelves. Glad you got another variant tho! I was going to grab clear if this one fell through.

I have no problem with that gateway allowing non-members to order, because it really only seems to let former members order with free shipping and, even when others get through, that's just part of being up on the hustle. There are several reasons why someone wouldn't want a membership at this point.

I have a problem with it, because I don't care whether or not someone wants a membership, but that person shouldn't get rewarded for VMP's incompetence while people who are members get effectively punished/have their membership devalued. Even though they get it right sometimes, I've also lost count of the number of times VMP has promised something will have a members exclusivity window, and then had to "apologize" (meaningless if the behavior is never corrected) when yet again, non-members helped drive a sellout before members had a chance at it.

The Fatbeats sold out yesterday. The ZIA pressing was gone by this morning. These moved quickly. The buzz on reddit did it. You'll notice that nothing has happened with the other 2 drops today, because nobody was hyping those over there. With the advanced heads up and the intriguing cover art and variant mock up posted, it gave them time to stir shit up, for people to check it out, expect the drop, etc. Then there are still those of us who have been wanting a copy of this forever, on top of it. Even if this was partly related to flipping, it's still because of the hype built around it that signaled flippers to grab it. Recently, you could still grab OG pressings for around $50, so this wouldn't necessarily have been a given that it was in such high demand. This isn't one of those $300 crate digger albums, but if you read the comments on reddit yesterday, you could kind of see this coming.

I even tried to walk a new member through how they could snag this. I told them to get online at least 10 minutes early, that VMP wouldn't announce the drop until it was already up, and the end result was going to be a bunch of people complaining about missing it without a heads up. Looks like that person didn't listen and missed it, but it panned out exactly how I expected. Keep in mind that the only mention of this being released today was the Tidal Wave IG post and then us.

Back in the day on the old forum, this is something we could expect to happen. We always hyped each other up and sold things out. My feeling is that Reddit has caught up.

Oh I thought earlier someone said this could no longer be done shortly after Skull Session sold out. Like, VMP was alerted to the workaround and was quickly able to nip it in the bud.

Twas me. If you already had it added to your cart you could continue to check stock. I had it at work but came home and couldn't do it as they had changed the links.

Your cart is computer specific. Cookies and what not.

LITA clear is also sold out now. I think some people were waiting to get the VMP one and if they swung out on it, they grabbed the LITA clear. All that's left is the black version now which I'm not sure many people realize is also limited.

I totally agree with ya--this selling out quickly was predictable. Some guy on reddit yesterday told me that there was no way this would sell out in an hour. I said it would sell out in under 20 min hah. You could tell based on reddit comments yesterday that it was going to fly off the shelves. Lots of people had never heard of it before and bought it without listening just based on the hype.

My hope is that VMP cancels anyone who bought more than 2 and puts them back up for sale.

But I'm not optimistic and can't refresh the page every five minutes to find out. If it doesn't show up for sale, then its no big deal.
I mean they just need to close the loophole. People even claimed to have told CS about it. The other issue is that anyone can have an unlimited amount of memberships. If you are hellbent on flipping, you can have multiple memberships all using the same CC or PayPal info. We already see this with people like Vinceron and lots of people on ebay selling 50+ copies of Stooges.

I saw this as a non-member now--just close the loophole. Don't let non-members order store drop exclusives until 48 hours have passed or something.
