Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Get that Donny Benet Kyuuji, trust me! It's so retro, nostalgic and chill, yet has that expensive, glamorous, intoxicating, luscious sound! I can't wait to have this record spinning whilst I put on a nice outfit to go clubbing or out to dinner at a funky place with my friends or sister and look at myself in the mirror to make sure I look good! And mmmmmmm, once I spray that luxurious smelling perfume on myself, it'll be lit! And I'll also be standing in front of the speakers and dancing while messaging my friends about what's happening for the night! This is great summer record too! And OMG, I just got all these pairs of dumbbells recently delivered to me and I can actually kinda imagine myself doing shoulder presses, bent over rows, dumbbell flies etc with this record spinning in my room! 🏝🍹🕺💃😎
frame this post and hang it in a museum

WOW, again, so well written and on top, I am inspired by your thought processes! I am very happy that you won't be picking up John Mayer, especially after explaining why! I'm thinking of maybe swapping him too now actually! You are extremely selfless and open-minded to take into consideration everything John Mayer has done, including being supportive of the trans community.

Yeah, I have really enjoyed hearing some of the protestors speak up and voice their feelings. Some of them have been really inspiring to listen to and their message and use of words and how they express themselves have been excellent!

Thanks for also explaining what "cancel culture" is too! You explained that so professionally and in a way that was so easy for me to grasp. I'm also baffled with VMP selecting him, especially after the domestic abuse he previously committed. VMP have made it clear they won't press particular artists like NaS for similar reasons. So I don't get why they have given John Mayer the pass! Even though I would never do it, VMP making John Mayer a ROTM makes me want to email them, asking to try and get the rights to press NaS' It Was Written or Illmatic haha!

When you said you were sending a letter to VMP, I was so happy because I love your mentality, professionalism and just how well spoken you are! I was like "yes, so glad Kyuuji is going to send through a letter about all of this to VMP! She is informative, logical and is so wise with her words. I have a feeling her letter will make a strong impression on the staff members reading it"!

Previously, I did send through a email, saying how proud of VMP I was, after they donated USD$25,000 and with their overall response to the Black Lives Matter movement! I praised them and they actually thanked me for reaching out to them and felt great about my email! So, I'm sure they'll definitely think well about your email, even If they are expecting someone to eventually speak up on John Mayer being a VMP exclusive!

Anyways, take care, have a great nap or sleep, and I'll see you in the forum very soon for the exciting Swaptions tomorrow morning! 🥳⏰🔄🗝🎁😜 Sweet dreams 🧸

Thanks Nathan 💛 and in kind your messages inspire me by their relentless positivity and desire to engage with people within a place of happiness, comfort and support ☁🌱🌸. It's genuinely admirable and where you offer praise to me, I see opportunities to learn through you 💪

I do, however, have to blame you for this 👀 ..

You're so right about this album! I'd described it elsewhere as sort of a "daydream haze", but you're spot on that it has this thick glamorous swag about it. Like a pile of gold ingots melting in the sheer heat of this fine gentleman's majestic prowess ☀🏜 🥵 I just can't deny myself that Vitamin D you know? Health experts would agree I'm sure 👩‍⚕️🌡👌 Go get that 🔥 as well doing your shoulder presses. Hell yeh 🏋️‍♂️

Your words around the letter are kind as well, and I'm happy to send one to them. Someone internally may have felt the same and some message of support could be of benefit to them 🤞 You don't know, but things don't take long to write 🚀📨 I'll also lightly, like the lightest fluffy macaron 🧁, note that my pronouns are they/them – "..oh that's Kyuuji; they post a lot, their posts are probably too long but I kinda dig seeing records from them" – you haven't caused upset or irritation. Was just to say because otherwise there's no other way you know, and I know you would want to 💛 can pm me if you want the 🦄 🌈 glorious 🌈🦄 goss though I am so shamefully overdue on responding to @Bluecloud777 so I might take a, uh, bit to get back because for some reason whoever's upstairs decided to make anxiety a thing in life I'm so sorry Blue ;__;

🕵️‍♀️ Secretly I'm just building back up to this next Fresh Grabs post though, since you know, the postman don't care about that shit 😂 I spoke to Analogue Seduction about the X1 issue and they immediately arranged to send out a new power supply (@Joe Mac 👍 ) which should hopefully be arriving some point soon 🚚🔥🔥☁☁ . It's not 100% if it'll be the remedy but ohh, am I hoping. Already missing the joy of being able to play my records. The feeling of flicking through and choosing one, admiring the cover before carefully slipping the inner out. Gently removing the record and putting it on the platter. The needle-drop and looking intently as the two connect. THE SUBSEQUENT SOUNDS! Ah, I am bereft. I do miss listening to that good jazz while the night faded into morning. I'm so grateful again for this community and their support in opening this door! 🙏

What else have you been picking up from the store recently? Come share 💄🍵 I want to know what you're excited about landing on your doorstep in addition to the glorious legend we know as Donny Benét ☀

No, I don't. I just find it funny that people have a scale of shittiness that they will accept. It's just like the argument "well not all cops are bad" when in fact, they are. Since the "good cops" look the other way while the bad cops do bad things.

So you agree they are both shitty, just one more than the other.
Your position is ridiculous, you should really stop trying to defend it.

Mmmmmm yessss! You now will have an album to spin that you can get ready to, before going clubbing or going out with friends! 🕺💃🥂

My current favourite album to spin whilst getting ready to go out is Kashif’s Kashif (1983)! That album is so chic, groovy, exquisite and sharp that it will make you’re amazing and are hot af! 💯💪😎👑🦚

Not sure if you’re being cheeky when you say “can’t deny yourself with that Vitamin D”, but imma roll with it 😋😈🐒! Love me some good Vitamin D! Always love getting some into me, keeps me happy and healthy 😉

I picked up Jonathan Richman and James Booker too! I’ve got the opaque pink RTJ4 coming in, so I didn’t pick up the indie exclusive of that Run the Jewels record in the VMP store! 😇👾

I cannot wait for A.A.L, The Weeknd, Run The Jewels, The White Stripes, Madvillain, Gwen Stefani and some Tone Poet and Blue Note80 reissues to arrive at my door step! 👀🙇‍♂️🕰🤟

I'm still waiting for the other James Booker to arrive but I'm excited to be able to add another to the collection. I hadn't come across Jonathan Richman before seeing this so I checked out the album and really enjoyed it. I'm sure I'll butcher genres and terminology here but it seemed very casual indie rock and nailed it. Just honest and chill. Only popped on a track to see if it was my thing and ended up clearing the whole thing.

Jonathan is kind of his own entity. He was really obsessed with The Velvet Underground, when he was starting out. That's more evident in his work with The Modern Lovers, which he fronted in the early 70s and pretty much disintegrated by the time their recordings even started being released. They even managed to have John Cale produce sessions with them.

Jonathan got influenced by a Bermuda trip and wanted to immediately flip the band's entire sound. The Lovers, eventually split up and Jerry Harrison went and joined The Talking Heads. Richman referred to his backing musicians as The Modern Lovers following the separation, but those incarnations were different entities.

Like with Slint's Spiderland and a number of others, The Modern Lovers album went on to become a highly revered and influential effort embraced after the band who created it already effectively called it quits.

I'm glad so many seem to be discovering and enjoying this Richman album. A lot of people are really excited to finally see it on vinyl.

🙌 That's an album everyone could use for sure 👍🥂

I'm putting Kashif – Kashif on my listen list for the evening, sounds amazing 👂💥 thank you!

Me..? 👀 Cheeky..? 👀 Couldn't be! 🙈 I was just saying how when I get my intake of Vitamin D it can be quite a hot and sweaty affair and that the esteemed Major of mammalian majesty, one Donny Benét ☀, reminded me of such. You're seeing things! 🤗🤭

Snap 📷💥 on RTJ4 and it seems for Jonathan Richman and James Booker too! Someone has good taste I see 😂👏 and that's a fantastic lineup you have coming. Nick Hakim arrived with some others this morning so I am keenly awaiting the ability to play that! Please shout at me if I haven't done the post on all these records by this time tomorrow 😤📞💬

So much for cutting down on that vinyl spending

I'd never come across him before so am equally glad to have been given the nudge by them! Likewise I'm glad people who have been aware of him throughout and have longed for this release are finally able to have it. Thank you for the outline of his backstory too, really interesting to get a sense of that history there I'll be checking out The Modern Lovers tonight! Sometimes when I listen to a record from a new artist I look up information about them and their life at the same time.Seems Jonathan will be a perfect one to do it for! Also, as an aside, you are more than good my dude. Hope the day goes well 🏙

Yeah, that Kashif album is classy, glamorous and is rollerblading fun! It’s like living your joyful teenage fantasy but also living your cocktail, classy fantasy! Love that album to bits! “I Just Gotta Have You” is one of my favourite songs of the 80’s! It’s a propulsive, shiny, dreamy yet groovy as sexy jam! 🕺💃

Oops! My bad! 🙊 I just have a bit of dirty mind! 🧠 Forgive me! 🐒👁 Just noticed how submissive you were being towards your majestic majesty Donny Benét! 😂👑

Yay! Can’t wait for you to enjoy those summer vibes when you spin Nick Hakim! 🏖🍹

Yeah, I noticed we have great music taste too! 🎯🥇💯

It’s so tough though!!! 🙈🙉🙊🦥🦔

Especially when I cannot travel and when I’ll be taking out another $5,000 from my Super! 🙌🤷‍♂️

Maybe I’ll be tough with the vinyl spending from the 1st of July, 2020, as it will be the start of me, trying to get a six-pack as well as a white-collar job! 👔💪😁

I moved to Boston in the 90s to go to college and immediately fell in with a crowd that adored the Modern Lovers and Jonathan Richman. I've always felt he was criminally underrated, although probably understandable. Some of his quirks (which I adore) is not for everyone,

My friend even sang one of his songs with his (then) fiance before getting married.

I, Jonathan should've been the essentials album! There, I said it.

I really love this description of playing records. There's something truly magical about it and it's so much more enjoyable than streaming. 💚 Really hope you're soon able to play records again. 🙂

Do you know about how they proposed making Roadrunner the official song of Massachusetts and Richman didn't support the idea?

I knew there was some state rep that kept proposing it (I think it's been voted down before and then was re-proposed, but I could be wrong). I didn't know that Richman was opposed to it. That's great.

Yeah. I have to find an article about it, but I think it was during the first time they tried to push it. He was kind of "thanks, but no thanks" about it. I think he kind of took the the humble, "there are better songs by others, but the suggestion is really flattering" approach, but it felt more like, "leave my music out of this" to me, at the time.

All I can find right now are pieces about them pushing it again and how there was, initially, a rival group trying to oppose it by presenting Aerosmith's "Dream On" as their selection.

Richman, who no longer plays the song live and has explained that it represents his teenage view of the world, did not lend his support to the bill. He told the Boston Globe: “Thank you so much, it’s very flattering … but I don’t think the song is good enough to be a Massachusetts song of any kind.”

There it is. Thanks!

EDIT:

And here is the original article that article references. I just read it through your link
