Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

i
Well I’m glad it’s John Mayer I needed something to swap for Shabaka.
It’s amazing album, you’ll love it! Plus, it’s such great value to get it as a swap! 🔥🔥🔥

Are you going to get that Prince Paul too? A Prince Among Thieves is such a cinematic masterpiece! Best R&HH ROTM pick so far this year along with El-P! McCoy Tyner’s Sahara is an absolute masterpiece too and is in my opinion, the best Classics ROTM pick so far this year! 💎🙏

Yeah I’m definitely in for the other 2 this month I made the mistake of swapping a HBMS and it cost me .Not missing Sahara either. I’m really trying to cut my vinyl down though so I can save up to move. But still in for those 3 plus RTJ4, Chet, Idles and maybe that Booker if I can sell some plasma.

Omg I’ve actually got a spare Handsome Boy Modelling School! It’s in Mint condition! If you never end up getting a copy, I’ll bring it with me when I fly over to the U.S. and you can have it! I never send records but if I ever do, it would be within Australia only as it’s just too expensive to send overseas, plus the waiting times etc! ⛔⚠️

I have a good feeling VMP did do a Handsome Boy Modelling School repress however and it will be in the Swaptions tomorrow! I think with this Tommy Boy release, they might have even De La Soul’s 3 Feet High & Rising come up too! Let’s hope they repressed both records so more people can enjoy them and sign up to VMP! 🤞

Great move to cut down your vinyl spending! You can get McCoy Tyner & Prince Paul and use your Swaptions to grab Shabaka & The Ancestors and/or Handsome Boy Modelling School (considering the repress)! 🎁

Either way, you’ll have three glorious ROTM’s/VMP exclusives chosen as your July ROTM’s! 🙌

Well Good ol VMP sent me 2 copies of the Woodstock box set and I traded one for HBMS an Orange copy of Garbage 2.0, and the new Earthgang so I finally got my hands on one

I have a feeling Shabaka won’t be in swaps AGAIN. But who knows anymore...

I worked a manual swap out of them, but didn't feel like bringing it up, before, since it was when other people were being denied. In fact, I was initially denied, too. If I hadn't gotten it, I probably would have just picked up a cheaper variant elsewhere.

For those that don't know, it's a pretty heavy and timely concept record touching on how structures of capitalism and white supremacy prioritize materialism, not only at the expense of marginalized lives and cultural history, but on their backs and do so by design.

As Hutchings explains

"We Are Sent Here by History is a meditation on the fact of our coming extinction as a species. It is a reflection from the ruins, from the burning. a questioning of the steps to be taken in preparation for our transition individually and societally if the end is to be seen as anything but a tragic defeat. For those lives lost and cultures dismantled by centuries of western expansionism, capitalist thought and white supremist structural hegemony the end days have long been heralded as present with this world experienced as an embodiment of a living purgatory."

The Pitchfork review interprets the theme as "suggesting that in order to build anew, some things will first need to burn."

But it's good just for the horns, too.

Does anyone know if there would be another store drop before the end of the month? I've got some credit I'd like to use before my membership runs out

Honestly if I were you I would just put him on ignore. I caught the brunt of one of his rants and almost quit this forum for good, but I realized there’s way too many cool people on here to let some arguments from one person keep me away for good.
"I caught the brunt of one of his rants" meaning you whined about people wanting to see some commitment or support from VinylMePlease around Black Lives Matter at the time and leant on the "but I have a black wife" defence when people called you out for it. Conflating the protests made with the violence and looting around while simultaneously suggesting it was only white kids doing it like it made any sense.

You were on some "keep politics out of my x" crap and rightfully caught some ire for it.

I really appreciate you for saying this. Nobody bothers to actually look back at how things unfold, even though there's a trail documenting it all on here. It's easy to paint it like I bugged out on someone out of the blue, but there was a long build up of watching someone continue to agitate other members and try to silence them, before I said something in their defense.

Here's the shitty response, after he tried to shut them down and someone said they believed that it was fair to discuss these issues in here

Yeah Youre right it’s easier to just ignore you. Have fun boycotting a record club that you don’t like anyway.

But... was that the end of it? Nope. As the conversation continued, there were just more jabs and interjections.

Right after the conversation returned, came this

Well I sure hope they don’t take the side of the looters and terrorist that are burning my city down.

Then this...

It could really just go without saying that racism and murdering unarmed people is wrong, but maybe they’ll put it in writing for you guys. I just automatically assume most people think that stuff is wrong and don’t need my inbox cluttered with every company’s official response .

and

I have no aversion to them making a statement or donation, hell I hope they donate to helping rebuild the cities these looters are destroying .

Here's the major portion of my terrible response/"rant" demonstrating how I'm the one instigating with people.

As a person who deals with racism in every facet of my life, you've clearly expressed how little my life matters to you. If you want to scoop up art by melanated artists, but don't give a shit about their struggles, then you just want them tapdancing for you. If you're buying hip hop records, you're fetishizing those struggles and experiences.

If you didn't want to hear about these issues in this thread and claimed you were just going to ignore it, then you could do that without announcing it. Plus, you didn't ignore it, you kept chiming in. So guess what I'd rather not hear? Your compulsion to make sure we see your eye rolls.

[...]

These are politicsl albums. If you love listening to black artists discuss poverty, and dehumanization, being shot at, harrassed by law enforcement, murdered, and/or killing each other, but that's not political to you, then that's voyeurism and fetishism. That's like watching a lynching for entertainment.

Ignore it and don't engage. Once you start trying to silence and undermine voices, we have an issue.

Sorry for being such a horrible piece of shit guys. Now that I reread this, I understand how abrasive I was. [that's sarcasm]

He says he doesn't want to discuss that in here, he just wants to talk about music. Now what album is he trying to get? Shabaka & The Ancestors. Are you fucking kidding me? It's literally an album about the connection to capitalism and white supremacy and, specifically, how they sacrifice and exploit cultures and black lives, so it all needs to be torn down and burned. This is more hypocritical than ironic.

Remember. Nobody mention the entire foundation of this concept record, or we're stepping outside of the bounds of music discussion and stumbling into politics. Let's only talk about the packaging and pressing quality.

I know dead c has me on ignore, so he may not see this but I would like to address this peaceful because we may be on the same page not even realize it.

I guess I would like to get some other opinions if I offended anyone else because maybe my situation is different then others.

I live in a 70+ percent Black neighborhood. When I suggested businesses being vandalized by looters I’m not talking about Target or Home Depot. My entire avenue is almost entirely minority owned stores. My barbershop, My grocery store, My Sneakers shop and general store all minority owned all vandalized, broken windows, fires, looting. All the windows are boarded up With signs that say things like is this justice ? Why us? or this is so wrong. I’m not a dude from the burbs,

These people whose shops were destroyed were family, friends and neighbors. All black and brown However if you go further up to to the white areas the hair cutlery and Whole Foods are fine. Like nothing ever happened

I was told I was victim blaming and I really don’t understand what that term means and if it ‘s even a bad thing in my situation.

Like I said I’m coming in peace and extending an olive branch to Dead C We May agree on some things but he may have the wrong impression of where I’m coming from. if he sees this. I have some stories I’d like to share and this probably isn’t the right place for them.

This isn’t the same but whenever political trouble flaresup over here it’s always in people’s own areas. I think it is systematic of the ghettoisation of the poor, of minorities, that entering areas of privilege isn’t seen as an option.
The system is so obviously broken and Black Lives Matter as a cause is so inescapably right that the civil unrest is a symptom of the frustration of a group of people who have tried using legal methods for justice not for decades, but centuries.
I think that the protests have been to a great great majority peaceful and dignified, the response has not. People around the world can see the reality, which is why the movement is experiencing support globally from all people of all races. The change must be at the top for a society to evolve.
