Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

They were a great company between 2014 - 2017 and then it all fell apart. They'll have been the gateway for lots of people to record collecting too.

It was Gorillaz. They were a small, successful, moderately-growing company before that record blew them up, and they took all the wrong lessons from it. Yeah, they still had problems in 2017 that are associated with a company learning to deal with growth, but they tried to pretend it would all go away if they kept their now-huge subscriber base and grow it even larger without scaling up anything else.

Plus, great restaurants downtown, although our go-to is a restaurant called May's. It's a seafood house (literally, a house that looks like it's having a party) where you strap on the all-you-can eat poured onto the table. Then hit Cakes to Die For to get dessert...can't miss it because there's a hearse they park out front. Some nice little shops, a small book store I always try to support, nice pubs, etc. It's a great evening out, revolving around vinyl, of course.
I’ve been to May’s! That place rules. I walked around Frederick last time I went with my family but didn’t go to any record shops. I’ll hit some up next time and already jotted the stores down for future ref. Thanks again!

It all goes back to Matt’s “if it’s not making us money, let’s get rid of it” mentality. He talks about it in every interview. They pride themselves on having only 20 employees. Instead of hiring an extra person or two to make everyone’s lives easier to work in logistics or CS, they would rather have less employees just to make the extra little bit in overhead. Somethings wrong if you’re doing $10 mil in gross sales every year but have to almost double the price of your product to “maintain quality”.

My 3 month sub still says it'll charge me $61 in september. If i actually get a sub with a super discounted price that they never bothered to change I'm gonna laugh so hard
I was monthly and when they announced the price hike I took their discount offer for a 6 month sub and it says I'll be charged $113, which is actually a really good deal....are others getting this too or is this a glitch that I'm going to get burned by come 9/1?

I see my 6 month as that too. I hope my 3 month sticks at $61 cause that’d be a killer deal

1500 customers have committed on a reddit poll so far to ditching their VMP subs 😬😬😬.

If my math is correct and given the benefit of the doubt that those 1500 people are subscribed to one track on a 3 month commitment that’s almost half a million in yearly revenue they have vaporized for themselves overnight.

My math could totally not be correct, I failed Algebra 2 in high school. Sorry.

Has any tried The End of All Music subscription? There past picks seem solid. Just wondering, because it looks like I'm going to be free of a vinyl subscription service next month.

I still haven't received a renewal email but I just went in to check if there was movement on any of my records and noticed that I'm now being offered the "special one-time discount" (3/89, 6/164. 12/299) that wasn't there yesterday

MoFi is doing a 2LP 45rpm cut of Raising Hell: Run DMC - Raising Hell (Numbered 180g 45rpm Vinyl 2LP)

lol i didn't want that album for 20 bucks i dont want it for 50
Nothing Great About Britain was actually pressed at MPO I believe.

This is another problem with their business model. They're platting at QRP and then pressing elsewhere (most often GZ which isn't great; though MPO is generally halfway decent). Why plate at the premium/expensive plant if you are going to press it at the Czech plant known for
being a bit lower on the quality side?
i think the reason they plate at QRP is because they know the specific pressing and quality (the parts that will create the complete vinyl after Gz or MPO make the vinyl), BUT QRP is pretty trash when it comes to colored vinyl (people made jokes about the grateful dead boxset), they only do plain, single colors with no real MAJOR unique swirls or splits or splatters, and they know the pretty color helps sell it so to keep a decent quality without having just plain black or solid color they move the plates to europe to press that. especially since it worked well for aretha franklin

Mine says 6 month is $219 hah yikes.

also i think they accidentally stated that all exclusives will be available to the public now

because instead of early access you get discounted prices
Yep Pauly framed that as a benefit. Except it’s not...members aren’t getting a cheaper price, non-members are just getting gouged even more. And for the extra $4 or whatever it’s not going to stop non-members from buying an “exclusive” if it’s desirable.

If you are only gonna duck in periodically, say once a quarter you actually benefit from not having a membership and slightly overpaying for exclusives. At these price points it comes down to how much you trust VMP curation. I have a lot of records from the company that I could have purchased elsewhere for less. I will pay for the exorbitant every once in a while but I have been priced out of the “just trust us” ROTM model they are currently relying on.
