Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Yeah true! The other colour variants are much cheaper, and this VMP colour variant is flattering either or that great looking unfortunately!

Cool concept with the recycling! It will be cool to see what it ends up looking like, but from the mock-up, it’s not that appealing!

Recycled vinyl 😬

Unless they’ve found a new way of doing that id be worried, traditionally that meant crackly as fuck pressings...

That is not a good thing.....😳

Hopefully they have found a new way because of recycled vinyl traditionally means ‘crackly’ pressings, then I’d want to avoid a recycled pressing! 😅

I was just thinking the other day how silly it is that the once relevant marketing claim of "virgin vinyl" has lasted so long when most vinyl purchasers today aren't familiar with the old recycled pressings with bits of label in the grooves. Maybe they will make it relevant again.

i mean given the increased awaradness of the evils of plastic waste it is something that has to happen. But I don’t know how much I trust the current pressing plants to ensure that none of the label gets in there...

Hopefully I’m not too late on the reading convo. I was an avid reader as a child and preteen but lost my knack and love for it when I entered high school and discovered weed, women, music and the sort but had a bit of a renaissance around 21 after I opted out of college for a gap year which turned into 2-3 to permanent lol. The book that reignited my love for reading believe it or not was the first Harry Potter book which I never got around to reading as a kid, I ended up burning through every book in the series in a few weeks and found my mind to be caught in the thrall of the written word again. It was such a beautiful and memorable experience in my life and getting used to reading again through something like Harry Potter got my mind comfortable digesting words and flipping through pages! Since then I’ve been probably reading about 8-10 books per year and have gotten a good routine of spending one month reading something non fiction about a subject that interests me and then going back to fiction and tackling classic literature and whatever else piques my interest. In the midst of my first read of 1984 at the moment and haven’t found myself as captured as I thought I would, I keep thinking to myself I’d rather read Brave New World 😂😂😂. I hope to be able to keep reading as a life long habit as I found that it’s helped strengthen my relationship with myself, my partner, my friends, and the world around me. You should try and pick it up again @NathanRicaud , you like traveling but there’s some places that a plane or car ride can’t take us and those worlds (which can be found in le books) can sometimes prove to be equally fantastical if not more! I find people shoot themselves in the foot when they start trying to read again cause they reach for some dense book that all the intellectuals are reading and become completely overwhelmed by the type count, vernacular, etc etc so start small like with Harry Potter, they’re such a joy to tear through and I imagine will only leave you wanting to read more! Also my now fiancé found the fact that I read to be very sexy and attractive and totally made her want to have my babies if that helps 🙆🏼‍♂️❤️🥰😍👹💋🙅🏼‍♂️

Agree the Harry Potter books are a great read ..read the first four before the movies ..they got a bit bloated from book 5 but a great series ..another one I’d nominate is Tolkien .. lord of the rings ..way more in the books than the movies and a book I have read 4 times since checking out a copy from the library as a teenager

I always thought I was the minority but... I'll say it.... 1984 is crap. It's proper, proper crap in fact. It's strength is the catchy nature of the elements (Big Brother, Room 101 etc) but as a novel is really, really not where its at. I totally agree. If I'm going dystopian give me Brave New World every time or better still I'd take Fahranheit 451, Bend Sinister, We (written in glorious South Shields)... basically anything above 1984. Not to totally trash Orwell as 'Down and Out in Paris and London' and 'The Road to Wigan Pier' are both mega. Possibly indicating that I'm more into his memoir-esq stuff than his shitty novels

If we're moving into fantasy....The Mists of Avalon (the Arthurian legends from the female perspective, for the unfamiliar).

I read that book after I had my wisdom teeth removed. I spent four days on quarters, doped up on pain pills, coming in and out of consciousness on a recliner - whenever I was awake I was devouring that book while listening to Yes' Close to the Edge on repeat. It was a book that I was genuinely sad it was over.

@NathanRicaud you seem like a bit of a lecher so you may like L. Sprague de Camp's "The Reluctant King" series. I remember there being some naughtiness in them.

I've always heard The Wheel of Time series is very good but haven't made it around to reading them.

I disagree regarding 1984 overall but I do enjoy A Brave New World much more. I think 1984 suffocates the individual through fear, force, and overt structures; while ABNW does so in a more insidious way (i.e. soma) - I think that is much scarier of a proposition.

If you want some good dystopian reading, try "We" by Zamyatin, which predates both 1984 & ABNW.

We is great. I always like to think that Zamyatin wrote it while he was in my neck of the woods (the yards he worked at are about 20 minutes from my house). He was an interesting guy

Thanks for all the recommendations from those above, will be adding them all to my reading list! Also I appreciate that hot take on 1984, @Rowan , unless it really starts to step up in the remainder then I will probably have to agree with you. I just find it rather boring and drab although I do find the concepts and potential parallels to modern society disturbing and fun to ponder.

On a music note, I finally got my shipping notification for this month for Sonny Rollins and Orchestra Baobab, I wonder if it took longer this month because they were waiting to get their Baobab stock! Also thinking of scooping up this Helena Deland album with my remaining store credit, I’m in love with 2/3 of the singles and that cover art is GORGEOUS.

We talking books?! I highly recommend getting into the world of biographies! My recommendations would be Chronicle by Bob Dylan. He talks about parts of his life but only what he finds interesting. So their are some time skips in it.

The other is Meet Me in The Bathroom. It talks about the music scene of New York in the late 90s early 2000s. Artists interviewed include The Strokes, The Killers, TV on The Radio and many more.

Their is a book for everyone, you just gotta try and find it!!

We are talking about music books specifically here! Books about music

Finally heard back from my email I sent on 8/29. I received around 9 albums, but Fanny, Eugene McDaniels, 2 Fiona Apple, Lord Finesse, and the Bar-Kays were all damaged. They compensated me with $90 store credit. All things considered, that is a substantial amount, but those albums definitely costed me way more than that. Should I try and pursue more, or just cut my losses?

If they are badly damaged and they won’t replace ask for a refund. $90 store credit at their current prices is 2 albums.

Damaged in what way?

I’d say depends on how bad the damage is. I just rec’d $60 for 3 that had corner bumps, which I thought was generous, but If your 6 have something more substantial, I would prob ask for more.
