Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I was able to order this for the members price along with free shipping even though I’m no longer a member. Now, before I decide to keep the order, how is the sound quality on this for those that have it? Do we know mastering and pressing details? The info page was a tad sparse.

Edit: Discogs shows Kevin Gray remastering and a GZ press. I’ll keep the order and hope for the best.
From what I’ve read the VMP version is a digital remaster, but Kevin Gray did it and looks to be fairly well regarded. There are two AAA options, both more expensive than this: the AP 45rpm version and the Speakers Corner version (I think Kevin Gray did all of them).

If anyone has compared the versions I’d be curious to hear your thoughts and whether the VMP version is worth it. I’m usually not a big fan of digital remasters on vinyl since I feel like I should just be listening to the hi-res digital version.

The other two are out of print though and both rare and damn pricy on the secondary market. I’d take the AP, even for a good bit more money, if it was still available.

That’s fair I only had a quick look at Acoustic Sounds and it looked like I could order the AP version, but looking more closely it’s actually backordered.

Well I haven't compared them, but I have the AP 45 and I honestly can't really imagine it sounding better. But I think everyone here at this point knows how I feel about AP 45s for the most part... that being that I would sell my children piecemeal to be able to obtain them all. Such is their quality both in terms of mastering and pressing. I'm referring to the vinyl, the quality of the children is terrible... horrid little things, always watching, judging...

DISCLAIMER -
-I DO NOT HAVE ANY KIDS
-BECAUSE I SOLD THEM ALL FOR AP 45s

-THE ABOVE STATEMENT IS WILDLY INACCURATE, I DO NOT HAVE ANY KIDS... SOLD OR NOT...

I see KG, I buy haha. I've heard great things about the VMP one despite being digitally sources. He really does amazing work. A bunch of the VMPx BN were digital masters too IIRC and they all sound awesome.

Did you find confirmation that it is digital? I saw someone over at sh.tv said they emailed Kevin Gray and he said "I can't say" which is weird but I was wondering if there was explicit confirmation from VMP. I'm sure it still sounds good though if he did the mastering.

Same thing happened with the BN x VMP store exclusive albums. He strongly hinted that they were done with digital sourcing but wasn't allowed to say for some reason. He said something like "it was made from a different source if you catch my drift"

No I didnt find any confirmation other than what you already mentioned. I ended up ordering it, it’s a good album and this is the easiest and cheapest way of getting what should be a good pressing.

I wonder if this second VMP pressing of John Lee Hooker was pressed at GZ or QRP!? I’m hoping it was pressed at QRP, especially as all the other classics are now pressed there!

Regardless, I’m so happy that it’s actually happening! I’m sure the pressing will sound great, even though it won’t be as good as the Analogue Productions pressing!
