Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I’ve been spending a lot recently but not nearly as much with VMP. I pretty much ignore all of their exclusives, and only get ROTMs that I really love. The price increases (on subscriptions and exclusives) forced me to. And I’m thankful for it honestly. I’ve been filling the holes in my collection with stuff I love and will listen to often, instead of grabbing stuff from VMP I never needed or even truly wanted.

Same here, it’s very much been a blessing in disguise!

Explained, but essentially what @wmeugene said.

moral of the story, assume everything over msrp is shilled, if you’d still be happy with it knowing that then there’s no reason not to pull the trigger. Buy what you like at the price you want to pay for it, but if you’re “investing” in vinyl, you’re likely to get burned. There are buyers clubs popping up that control the secondary price.

It’s my tin foil hat theory that Vinceron and VMP are heads of the same buyers club and many VMP releases are shilled on the secondary in order to geurilla market being a member of the club. “$40 is a lot of money to be asking to be part of a club, so let’s mess with the secondary to make it seem like a bargain!”

I think- and this is just my opinion as a collector, I'm not in the industry- that we are seeing a confluence of market forces at play here of which VMP is just a part/symptom of:

1) Likely driven by shoe culture, the pop and hip hop heads are SPIKING the market on FOMO releases. This is where a lot of the buy groups, bots, and flippers come in to play. Records in these genres seem to be commanding the most absurd markups, last the shortest, and ironically are probably enjoyed the least as a lot of fans really treat these as collector items.

2) Pressing quality and sound engineering matter to buyers now likely more than ever. In the 70s you got what you got, in the 80s/90s people just went for CD's, in the 2000's buyers put up with Rainbo/United digital pressed crap LP's. But now...there is just so much more of an uproar over bad sound, and the Bellmans/Greys/RKS's of the world are working overtime and their name alone can push units. The extra attention to detail likely costs more and leads to-

3) We are quietly running out. The Universal fires, the pressing plant disaster has not only made preorders a 6 month out process, but I've noticed more and more items in my DC prices floating higher and higher. Things aren't getting repressed as much. Harder to find used copies of past presses- and speaking of Grey/Bellman? They have been doing this a LONG time, and will eventually stop. The amount of AAA sources for them to remaster is drying up, the major disposable income market for the vintage jazz/classic rock genres are getting older and have amassed most of their collections. There isn't really anything set up to fill the void these guys will leave- some of the definitive recordings of major albums have been pressed and may never come back.

Does your local actually pay well? The few in my city offer pennies on the dollar. I find it easier to just sell on Discogs or online. That way I'm not getting $2 for a $25 record.

Mine usually will do around 50-60% of what it's going for on discogs and a little wiggle room if it's in the form of credit instead of cash.

My anarchistic hot take is that the price of EVERYTHING is trickling up and will continue to do so at an accelerating rate until the USD fully collapses, taking down several other currencies with it. I'm also sure your points are valid and contributing factors. That being said, VMP pricing is still way more than it needs to be right now, but if they aren't hemorrhaging customers they'll have no incentive to fix that.

And this is also why crypto has been so hot? Can’t owe China a bunch of money if we destroy our own currency and favor crypto as the new standard.

Crypto heats up for a variety of reasons, but those money printers firing up never hurts! haha. Things could be getting ugly all around in the near future though for sure.

Excellent for screen printing as far as the budget brands go
I have several Gildan band t-shirts some are great and some are terrible. They are usually better than the Hanes Beefy t-tees. My favorite were the American Apparel tri-blend shirts. It seems like Next Level and Canvas are filling the AA void a bit but they were the best and neither is quite there.

Yep, I'm a Bella+Canvas man myself. They're not too much more expensive than Gildan, etc, and they are a hell of a lot more comfortable and flattering to wear.

I used to run a 14 color automatic printing press in college during the summers. At the time, Gildan were priced the same as the bottom of the barrel Fruit of the Loom and Hanes shirts. The Gildan's had bolder colors and significantly less lint, which is enemy #1 to silk screening. But yeah, the fit is trash unless you're shaped like spongebob. Those AAs were great and I'm not sure how it's been since they folded, but I like the Canvas shirts I have.
Being in the Philly area we would sometimes do Mitchell & Ness and they sourced their own shirts which were the best. Not sure if they still do.

Never underestimate Toronto's ability to line up at a moment's notice for overpriced mediocre shit. I can't wait for the line ups when Chick Fil A opens. People vowing to never eat there based on morals slipping into line under the cover of masks.

From the south, grew up on Chik Fila. Moved to AZ for college in time to see the first one open there and west coasters just lose their minds over it.

ChikFila and Cali's In N Out Burger are two Jesus lovin franchises that just do not give a shit about your town's other dining options they are going to dominate no matter what. It's literally addicting

Here's where we can expect the madness:

What is this? Are they restocking a bunch of titles or something?

To celebrate this month being their 100th Essentials release, VMP has teased that they will at some point, put some previously sold out, highly requested ROTMs back for sale.

Here are some Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

When will this happen: ????
How many copies of each title will be available: ????
Is this for members only or can anyone buy these: ????
Are they going to drop all at once or will this happen multiple times this month: ????
What ROTMs will be sold: ????

Ok, I joke a bit about that last one. Earlier in the week some inquisitive person found several sold out ROTM's had the "VMP-100" tag added. The tag has since been removed but it is likely the albums will be:

-Gorillaz
-Queen
-OutKast (both Stankonia and SouthernPlaya)
-Spiritualized
-Phoenix
-Queens of the Stone Age
-Al Green
-Miles Davis & John Coltrane live in Paris
-Saba

Will there be any more ROTMs than that: ????

Hey @NathanRicaud, just out of curiosity can you do your stock trick with the new Darkside exclusive? I'm really curious to see if anyone bought at that price...

Not me!
£50 for non members or preorder from local shop for £18.
Not a hard choice. Their pricing is just getting silly. It’s an album that is gonna be widely available for under £20 in the UK and I assume the same worldwide - currency adjusted
