Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

FINALLY spinning Funkadelic - Finest... I can't say that this sounds "bad," because it sounds wholly unlike anything else I own. I'll have to own up to recognizing George Clinton as a pop-culture personality for many years but not spending much time with his studio output. Is this compilation supposed to sound like a cassette mixtape? Is it due to it being a compilation in general? Is the sound this hollow and weird (but kind of great) on the original albums? Provide me with some context, guys!

EDIT: the red and yellow splatter on this pressing looks really, really good, btw.

Spinning mine right now and it sounds really good on my system. Funkadelic/Parliament was always kind of whacky. The weirdness is definitely present on several of the albums. From what I hear, they were fairly well known for their weirdness on the stage as well. Would love to get the take of someone that saw them live in their hey day.

What type of system are you running?

I ask because I spun this a few days ago and it sounded pretty bad to me. Flat and thin sound with no real depth or dynamics. I was highly HIGHLY disappointed. Granted, it had immediately followed an OG German pressing of Wish You Were Here, so it had a tremendously tough act to follow. But still, it sounded bad man.

That’s not good to hear that the Funkadelic pressing sounds poor.....😟

That’s one of the exclusives I was most excited about too......

Me too my man, me too. I didn’t mind the delays but either this is horribly mastered or there was an issue in the pressing. My system is fairly beefy (not quite audiophile but not far off) and I was underwhelmed from the very first song. It never improved.

My system should be listed in my signature. Technics 1210 mk5 with an at150sa. Midrange system. Like I said, it sounded fine to me. I can AB some of the tracks with my original pressings of Maggot Brain and On the Verge to check, but I’m away from home for a week starting tomorrow morning.

Not going to start arguing about the merits of anyone's system though.

Ok so I couldn’t wait a week to check. I quickly AB’ed Hit it and Quit It and Standing On The Verge and the original pressings killed the comp pressing. I see what you mean. The comp sound is much flatter. It’s serviceable to me, but yeah, I can understand the disappointment. Though I kind of wish I didn’t do the A-b... ignorance was bliss :).
