Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

The problem wasn’t that they repressed it. It was that they said they never would repress it.

Thanks for that explanation. At first, I was of the mindset that it’s a good (and smart) thing to provide a popular product to more people. It’s good for more people to have a thing they want! But if it was sold as a special limited edition thing, it’s unethical to backtrack on that. At LEAST alter the subsequent covers or differentiate the different editions in some way. Otherwise, it’s just taking advantage of collector customers.

It said on the first post of Classics it was a limited Edition thing. Another reason to get rid of the forum. It makes the seller seem less reputable. I’ve missed out on records and pressings in the past. That’s the name of the game. While ideally everyone would get everything they wanted limited editions are a sales pitch. I was glad to see everyone get a copy who missed out but felt it was a poor show to those who were misdirected initially

This has always been the problem with their FOMO way of doing business. I mean, just sell the damn albums without the dangling carrot of it being limited. The problem, honestly, they may fancy themselves as "Music" people, but they have no clue, so the pressings that they got all high about ended up with left overs collecting dust and costing them money, but hey, this sold out, lets repress it...................that's the ticket ;)

It's disheartening, more than anything else, they could have been more than successful and made money if they would just listen to a few people.

Yeah, it wasn't even close when I did the AB test. That's why I was able to get an answer so fast. Amazing how much fuller and spaced out the mix is on those two tracks from their respective original LPs. Caveat here is I didn't AB against another copy of Finest, so this may be a mix down problem originating from the original late 90s pressing of that. All this to say that for those wanting to track down better versions, I'd start with reissues of the LPs themselves because those mixes may be ok. The original vinyls can be expensive, especially good copies of Maggot Brain. I lucked out finding a copy in the early 90s when I started to get into Funkadelic.

No worries for the second thing. It's hard to judge intention and I don't like arguing those things. You're spot on about how subtle differences in set-up can make huge differences though.
@Turbo @Tyr I'll add my voice to this as well. I think the pressing sounds pretty bad. The vinyl itself looks rad but the sound is very flat and almost feels muted. I played a recent repress of Aretha Franklin - Lady Soul to see if it was my setup or a needle issue. Sadly, it was not. I'm torn between trying to sell it (even for a loss) or keep it. The jacket also is severely dented (not from shipping) but the records are pristine. It's also #3 which is pretty cool.

A few months ago, before it was repressed, Archie Shepp was the most desired album imaginable. Nowadays it’s a bit meh
The way vmp did that is still a bit baffling...totally diminished the whole concept of getting in early for something special (classics) atleast put different runout numbers on them to keep originals special ffs

So storf literally quoted my post when I asked if they would be repressing and said they would never repress that, JLH or Noname.

I bought a copy off discogs as a result for 50 as it was a great deal at the time and i thought it would be cool to have all the classics...anyway that's why I asked again on the forum since it was an expensive purchase and I wanted to be sure.

4 months later they had the copies on their website.

Yea, this is what happened to me too. I paid $60 on cogs for a copy, thought it was a great deal, then a few months later you can buy it in the store. I don't really regret the purchase I guess, but I was not pleased that they just decided one day to do it for Archie. I don't blame Storf for what he said, since I don't think he was told they planned to do it. Definitely seemed like something that came from the top.

Same here. Bought a not-so-great copy on discogs for around $45 just a few months before VMP added more to the store. Disappointed but not surprised, I guess. 🤷‍♂️

Stars update from CS, i had re-listened to my copy and the pops during Calendar Girl were pretty bad so I emailed in:

"I'm bummed to hear that your copy of 'Set Yourself on Fire' is exhibiting that noise and popping on the last track – you are correct that we've identified it as being part of a larger pressing issue. We're closing talks with the label and pressing plant now to do a repress of that record and send out new, clean discs to all of our customers who've purchased that title. At the moment, I'm not aware of a timetable for that repress, but it's understood that we want it as soon as feasible.

We'll be sending out more official communication once it's all concrete..."

I wonder if people who got a refund for their bad copies will have an opportunity to get it.

Would be wild if they sent it to is anyways...lol
