Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Man, swapping is starting to feel like a rip off. Since everything has been there for a long time, you can get them for close to $20 shipped from discogs. Are there any exceptions to that?
Man when I joined about 18 months ago they only allowed one swap every 3 months on my subscription and the selection was pretty sparse so I feel like it’s much better now than it was just a year and a half ago.

That's good I guess, but if I pay $27 for a record I can get sealed on discogs for $20, I don't really feel like I'm getting my money's worth.

My system should be listed in my signature. Technics 1210 mk5 with an at150sa. Midrange system. Like I said, it sounded fine to me. I can AB some of the tracks with my original pressings of Maggot Brain and On the Verge to check, but I’m away from home for a week starting tomorrow morning.
I was on my phone when I responded so I couldn't see your signature. Thanks for being willing to AB it though as I suspected it was a larger issue than just the two of us in this thread that mentioned the lack of sonic quality.

Not going to start arguing about the merits of anyone's system though.
That was not my intention at all. My apologies if it came across that way. I was only asking as I have even noticed differences in the same pressing on systems with similar specs. Something as innocuous as speaker cable or even placement has given me vastly different results. I was seeing if there were any commonalities between our three systems.

Turn your phone sideways.
What in the WHAT now?!?!

You just blew my mind, my man.

Yeah, it wasn't even close when I did the AB test. That's why I was able to get an answer so fast. Amazing how much fuller and spaced out the mix is on those two tracks from their respective original LPs. Caveat here is I didn't AB against another copy of Finest, so this may be a mix down problem originating from the original late 90s pressing of that. All this to say that for those wanting to track down better versions, I'd start with reissues of the LPs themselves because those mixes may be ok. The original vinyls can be expensive, especially good copies of Maggot Brain. I lucked out finding a copy in the early 90s when I started to get into Funkadelic.

No worries for the second thing. It's hard to judge intention and I don't like arguing those things. You're spot on about how subtle differences in set-up can make huge differences though.

I think Shepp is an experience as well, I did enjoy my first listen and the liner notes. Awkward album in the sense you can't listen to it often.

I was VERY close to swapping for Shepp this month, but I just can't imagine listening to the whole album more than a few times in my life. All due respect to the album, which is a JOURNEY, but it's not exactly a jam.

Ross!

Shepp is one of my most listened to records.

The way vmp did that is still a bit baffling...totally diminished the whole concept of getting in early for something special (classics) atleast put different runout numbers on them to keep originals special ffs
I expect at some point in the next year or so, VMP will start a 4th stream, VMP Rewind, where they repress items from the past that they let go OOP. Just like printing money
