Exclusive prices are rapidly approaching "out of control" territory so this is VMP scrambling for any bells and whistles they can add on with minimal effort to justify exorbitant prices. "Look, we switched the color of the artist name and the album name on this Denzel Curry exclusive!" "We applied a blue tint to the cover of OUR Jamila Woods exclusive, that's why it's 30 bucks instead of 20" "Yeah I know that deluxe bundles and extra 7"s are cool, but you know what's cooler? Our art team went onto the cover of this album and gave Angel Olsen GREEN EYES! That'll be $33 please" It almost makes me more mad than if the cover wasn't altered at all, because it's obvious there's literally no motivation for it whatsoever other than "Let's do the literal bare minimum so that we can say we have an alternate album art so that we can justify charging 10 bucks more". Pretty soon the "exclusive album art" is going to be stuff like "we moved the artist's name on the cover five pixels to the left" "We edited all the reds to actually be blood orange instead" "We erased the album name and rewrote it in comic sans with rainbow color and a little smiley face next to it"
VMP releases statement 3 days before shipping that the text was actually supposed to be mirrored as an homage to all mirrors and deemed that necessary to delay the package 3 months. As recompense they will send you a tiny mirror in your package to distract you from their horrible... *oooo shiny!!!!*
This is a weekly event in my culture
Someone make an alternate album art thread, please!
The site says Angel is numbered. Is it not?Personally I don't think the Angel Olsen exclusive is that bad, but I agree that it's just not that special either. I think if it was numbered then fewer people would have issues.
Initially I was tempted by the bundle. I might still be. Or I might just wait to see if the colored variant makes it into my local store. I don't think the VMP one is offensively priced because shipping is included. The aqua colored version is $31 after shipping, so it's not that bad. But that $30 mark does feel a bit like a break point.
Normally when a few variants are announced, one of them grabs me and makes the choice easy. In this case, they area all fairly similar. I think the colored eyes are cool, but I don't know if it's cool enough to pay a premium for. One thing we have kind of ignored with the VMP pressing is that it seems to be the only one that has a limited count... fairly significant in the collecting world. I don't care for VMP trying to cash in on that, but oh well. It should be a perk of the club to get it at very close to the normal pricing.
I have a day off tomorrow and it’s bank holiday weekend, time to go open beer number 2...
I have finished number 2 so cheers
C+ not your finest work.Sounds like ToneDen is pretty....ToneDef

This made me laugh way harder than it should have.
I always preferred the alternate cover for MGMT's Oracular Spectacular to the originalRegarding alternate covers, I thought the urban outfitters edition for Passion Pit’s Kindred was cool, featuring a completely different kid:

I went to enter that contest to win records from the hi-five series, but uh....View attachment 13050
...no, nevermind. I'm good.
Well would you look at that, it is numbered! I don't know why I missed that, or why that hasn't come into conversation. So elusive color, numbered, tweaked cover art (I think "alternate" is a bit of a stretch here), free shipping. I think that's enough to justify the price vs the standard colored edition. I'm sure for plenty of people those bits don't add enough value, but I do think it's enough to justify the price. The site says Angel is numbered. Is it not?
ROB also says it’s numbered and it’s clearly not so.....never trust vmpWell would you look at that, it is numbered! I don't know why I missed that, or why that hasn't come into conversation.
