Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Still having trouble deciding on a swap since they are mostly available for cheaper in discogs. Juju: Nia isn't (probably because it wasn't bought by very many people) but of the three studio albums they released by them, it's the only one I considered buying. Also, Power of Zeus, but the normal Bongo release is available for cheaper. Of course I'd have to ask to swap to both.

Right now I have it set to OME, but if I change it I'll just order that one for $20 from discogs.

One of my biggest pet peeves as a photographer is F-ing selective color editing into a B&W photo, so this Angel Olsen exclusive is DEAD TO ME on principle alone. God dammit. I hate it so much. It ranks right up there with crooked horizons in landscape photos. Artistic nails on a chalkboard. Whichever chump suggested and then went so far as to get this abomination pushed through should be publicly mocked forever.
Now this is the sort of rant I need in order not to give in to VMP temptations, thank you, Coke Bottle Clear with stupid blue eyes is dead to me!

I think that depressingly my best option for the Angel Olsen is the crystal Clear from our favourite neighbourhood bastards at amazon. Cheapest by far here for it, VMPs price is a joke (member or not) and the nice one is mental shipping to here and isn’t available in Europe it seems

There’s a UK/EU site for the aquamarine (and bundle), the shipping for the bundle is a bit pricey though.

Originally had Isley Brothers. Really buckled down and did an analysis of the records that I would absolutely spin the most from the swaps available that I don't own yet. Ended up with Phoenix. I feel like I've been buying mostly hip-hop records lately, so I don't mind a little more alternative/rock in my collection.

Could still be swayed in the direction of any of the following:
  • Sleater-Kinney
  • Queen Latifah
  • Open Mike Eagle
  • Camp Lo
  • Al Green
  • T.I.
  • Feist
I feel like if it isn't a month where one of the three subs is a no-brainer for me, I am stuck between deciding on several mehhhs, and more often than not, I make the decision based on general consensus, scarcity, or value. And then I end up with a record that I never listen to. I, at least, know that I like that Phoenix album.
Al Green everyday. Call Me and Blossom Dearie have pretty quickly become my two favorite VMP releases and that Al Green has become one of my favorite albums ever. Gets so much spin time.

I love it, my favorite record of 2016.

fifm (fixed it for me)

my buddies and i get together in January every year to drink bourbon and talk about/listen to our favorite albums of the previous year. this coming Jan we're going to tackle the whole decade so I've been revisiting my top 10 lists from each year. My Woman is likely a top 3 album of the decade for me, with a chance at No. 1 overall.

I want friends like yours.

Exclusive prices are rapidly approaching "out of control" territory so this is VMP scrambling for any bells and whistles they can add on with minimal effort to justify exorbitant prices. "Look, we switched the color of the artist name and the album name on this Denzel Curry exclusive!" "We applied a blue tint to the cover of OUR Jamila Woods exclusive, that's why it's 30 bucks instead of 20" "Yeah I know that deluxe bundles and extra 7"s are cool, but you know what's cooler? Our art team went onto the cover of this album and gave Angel Olsen GREEN EYES! That'll be $33 please" It almost makes me more mad than if the cover wasn't altered at all, because it's obvious there's literally no motivation for it whatsoever other than "Let's do the literal bare minimum so that we can say we have an alternate album art so that we can justify charging 10 bucks more". Pretty soon the "exclusive album art" is going to be stuff like "we moved the artist's name on the cover five pixels to the left" "We edited all the reds to actually be blood orange instead" "We erased the album name and rewrote it in comic sans with rainbow color and a little smiley face next to it"
