Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I thought the Doug Sahm was a terrible pick and arguably Groover's Paradise isn't country at all so there is that, but I am sure I am in the minority there.
Personally, I enjoyed Sahm but I don’t think it was a hot seller by any stretch. I would say it’s squarely a Country Rock album as opposed to straight country.

Groover’s Paradise isn’t Sahm’s best album and 5th Gear is Brad’s finest moment either.

I understand why people might not personally like it, but they did commit to making selections across country/Americana/bluegrass/roots rock. It's a little more out there but I think it still fits the broader genre and it feels like when they used to make challenging/interesting picks more often in the Essentials track.

Check out these fantastic lyrics:

These days there's dudes getting facials
Manicured, waxed, and botoxed
With deep spray on tans and creamy, lotioney hands
You can't grip a tackle box
Yeah with all of these men lining up to get neutered
It's hip now to be feminized
But I don't highlight my hair
I've still got a pair
Yeah honey, I'm still a guy
My eyebrows ain't plucked
There's a gun in my truck
Oh thank God I'm still a guy

Fuck this shit.
Holy insecurities batman. And yeah, fuck everything about him.

The problem is country music has never really broken from being a singles-powered genre. There are exceptions- my favs are Ray Price, Willie, Buck, Dwight, etc. But country buyers have never really rewarded cohesive albums over big singles. Most of the albums that people recommend VMP press are county-adjacent, at best. Even some of the most popular county albums are just live greatest hits albums (Folsom, Carnegie Hall). Unless the expand it's going to be a struggle. How many didn't swap JMM?

For real. Even if he IS joking and being tongue-in-cheek, it makes me super uncomfortable because I’m sure so many of his fans buy into that whole thing.

*Edit: also I’d like to just say I’m very thankful that I’m part of an online community who doesn’t tolerate that kinda shit.
100% on the online community here! And yeah, that's not tongue in cheek lyrics. That's the typical toxic stuff people of that community love to espouse and then use the "It'S A jOkE" deflection when they get called out on it.

:chec's kiss:

but the original art has the veve logo on it, no? isn't that why they left it out?
Genuinely asking, why would that matter? Sun Ship has the Impulse logo on the cover. Lee Morgan has the Jazzland logo. Ben Webster’s Soulville has a Verve logo on the front of it too.

Is there some reason that they would not wanna include the Verve logo on that particular release

Man, I was unfamiliar with the paisley album. Some of his stuff have been decent in a mainstream country kind of way but the video they link to…yikes. That was some garbage sadder still is he somehow managed to wrangle a good chunk of the Seinfeld cast to star in it. Jason Alexander has to have enough money to avoid doing something like that.

So thankful this was posted, here I was thinking “brad paisley… never listened to him much… heard he’s okay… maybe I’ll just go in blind…”
