Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Still can't over these prices. $30 for a Rising artist when they used to be around $22.

I think that's what really killed it for me. Discovering new music and new artists. I'd be much more willing to go out on a limb and take a chance when it's in the $25 range but with everything 10 to 20 bucks higher now, I just can't do it.

So much this.

Even with the exchange rate making it technically higher, anything $26 or less with free shipping felt like a full reasonable price to take a chance on. Now most of their stuff is priced to a point where I wouldn't even pay it for a lot of things I'd consider myself to want.

I used to buy so much more VMP stuff because I’d take a chance on a $22 album. And if I didn’t like it or spin it enough I could usually resell it for what I paid for it if not more. At $30 most don’t hold their value and with prices going up for other records I need to be pickier about what I buy. Shame because some of my favorite VMP discoveries were the rising albums.

Does anyone remember how much they paid for Saba's "Care For Me"?

It's restocked at $42* and I was curious how much I paid for it, so I went through my old emails and looks like I paid $46 and change, but that doesn't seem right to me.

EDIT: $42 is non-member pricing. It's $37 otherwise.

when did you buy it? it was in stock at various times. they repressed it i think in 2021 and it was probably a similar price to $37. my copy from saba's store years ago was $30+almost $10 shipping.

For the life of me I can't find the original order email, but the shipment email says it shipped Oct 2021.

i have an email from late June 2021 that mentioned the repress so must have been from there. you can maybe check your VMP order history on the site? even if you're not a member should probably have the order info in your history?

Yeah, and that's before shipping for non-members. So for a non-member to take a chance on a rising artists, they want $40 for an unknown artist? Honestly the label should be subsidizing some of the cost in my opinion because they probably get a measurable number of streams for being a featured artist.

But also knowing that VMP is beholden to investors and a board, they probably do a kick back from the label on these. Wouldn't shock me one bit.

And while we're at it, can we talk about pure percentages here for a second? We're looking at a 36% price increase! That's what really tossed me off the VMP boat. I get needing to keep up with inflation to an extent, but that percentage is insane. That's also the price increase that got me off the subscription. In reality, the difference of $300 to $400 per year wasn't going to impact my day to day. But I just couldn't tolerate a 33% price jump. So I spoke with my wallet. And I continue to speak with my wallet. Honestly, if it wasn't for the one Fiona album that I don't have in the collection, I wouldn't have looked at VMPs site in months. I'm actually quite surprised by how little I miss it.

Ah, here it is. It must've been a swap on Oct 1 2021. International sub pricing would likely explain why it was $46 in the order price.
