Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Someone complained about this on reddit and while I take reddit comments with a grain of salt, this one is truly some fuckery.

VMP:

This is a VMP Exclusive record, and you can't get this specific variation anywhere else.

and now:

This is the EXACT same variant, but around $15 cheaper. I'd lose my shit on them here.

EDIT: Even check the copy on both listings. VMP got the abbreviated version it seems.

Haha, holy shit this is a colossal mess.

EDIT: So in summary it looks like VMP got a bit of a head start on the general release of an album, slapped a number on it and called it a "VMP exclusive" when the only thing exclusive about it is price and a number.

I think ultimately you're right though @Lee Newman, this is probably a bait and switch from BMG telling VMP they're getting this exclusive variant early then making it the standard variant without telling them. I would think that if they DID tell VMP their CS is usually decent enough to give those with preorders a heads up.

I mean part of the impetus is on VMP to figure it out too. Their customers have noticed, shouldn’t necessarily be up to BMG to act on it from that side of things. (Not saying BMG shouldn’t act, just saying VMP should)

Mix-ups happened. I ordered my copy of Nickel Creek from the band like five minutes after it went up. They were selling the VMP variant by accident at that point. They noticed and sent out an email explaining they were wrong and it should have been the one I got instead and offered refunds if it was not an acceptable purchase because of the mix up.

Yeah, I did some searching and looks like preorders started appearing at least two days ago. I'd be surprised if nobody at VMP has seen a listing yet and did a double take.

I was hoping to swap for this at some time. I'll wait for it to go to the sale section now.

A couple, if not all of the links I posted are UK/European so check the shipping costs on those. I usually find rarewaves shipping to be REALLY good cost wise to Canada.
Yeah, can confirm. All in rarewaves is going to charge me $52.98 shipped vs $66.79 from VMP after conversion. Dumb dumb dumb.

EDIT: Though mind you it's still slightly cheaper if it DID appear in swaps at the international add-on cost, but I don't think you should bank on it.

So the reddit mod got back regarding this whole thing with this:

VMP is aware of this and the working assumption is that the production plant made more than the 500 VMP ordered and dumped these copies to other sellers.
Plus once they get their own plant up and running everything will be in house.

I don't really care either way, I buy albums I want to listen to and don't care about numbering or limited editions, but some people do and this whole situation is kind of absurd, especially when those other copies are undercutting VMP's pricing by a fair margin.
