Their Future Shock reissue in the Herbie Anthology sounded fantastic. Blew the original out of the water IMO. I’d love a well done Sound-System reissue as well.

Just as VMP does not recognize albums reissued outside the US of A, I do not recognize reissues as part of an overpriced box set

On this line, I have mentioned this before that in his autobiography Herbie talks about the greatest performance he has ever given being a live Mwandishi gig. At the time he used to have a portable tape recorder and would record whole gigs to then listen back to it. Supposedly the whole group were so impressed with the performance they gave that they would pass the tape around constantly until one day it went missing.
I would love to have heard that tape because the Mwandishi album is fantastic.

For you Herbie completists, this is a fun listen. Not his best music, but some sounds akin to Mwandishi and Headhunters. And it’s Herbie, so while not his best, still good. I didn’t know it was a bootleg when I bought my copy 10-15 years ago. Quality of the release itself is pretty good.
The movie is also worth watching and has a good backstory. And if you were ever into Hogan’s Heroes, Ivan Dixon produced and directed it.
