Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

But because you live in Australia, a black/standard copy of Songs For The Deaf won’t be necessarily cheaper than the VMP exclusive of Songs For The Deaf! 💡

Because of you living in Australia, I hope the Songs For The Deaf standard version is more expensive than the VMP exclusive version, so then you re-subscribe 🙃

But have you not been spending much money on vinyl at all? If that’s the case, then I understand and also.....maybe you just haven’t been liking the exclusives VMP have been dropping! 🤷‍♂️

But, our amazing friend @Joe Mac has re-joined VMP because even he knows that they are dropping 10/10 ROTM’s in the last few months! 💯

Also, we know some Fiona Apple will be coming soon, and a Pitchfork x VMP exclusive collaboration will be coming very soon too! 🙇‍♂️

Now seems like the best time to join VMP! 🥳

And stop being old and traditional, proclaiming that a second hand copy of Aretha Franklin is the best! For me, high quality sound is the best, but I also like good-looking things, so you know...💁‍♂️😘

I only want you to join VMP for another 3 months for the November ROTM because I really like you and I know November 2019, December 2019, and January 2020 are going to be too hot to handle! 🔥🔥🔥

But if you are saving money and don’t want to actually spend money on vinyl, then fair enough!

I hopped back in for the next few months most likely. I’ve been wayyyy better at not jumping on releases I truly don’t care about. My boxes have probably been between 0 and 3 the last 5/6 months or so. I have way less records in my orders list. Trying to only buy records I love/will spin. I think my biggest box ever was during that Xmas sale last year (which was pretty great value), around 18.

You see, here's the best part Nath, since ditching VMP, you're right, I do spend less, but not deliberately, it's by default. I get a lot more vinyl, better vinyl, from a greater selection of it, that allows me too curate and manage my own collection. I'd almost forgotten the art of collecting vinyl that really satisfied me, each pressing representing a different experience, a chat in a record store, a review that led me on a wild web search looking for that one record, 'quality' online vinyl retailers like MoFi and Bluenote when I wanted to spoil myself, record fairs and dollar bins, its endless...I'm delirious and excited about collecting vinyl again, but thats just me, we're all different.

I wonder when the next Pitchfork x VMP collaborative exclusive will come out?!?!? 🤔

It’s been taking FOREVER!!! 🕰

I’m hoping that the last Pitchfork x VMP exclusive (UGK’s “Ridin’ Dirty), which seemed to have been unsuccessful, doesn’t put VMP off from continuing to do those exclusives with Pitchfork! I’m really hoping we get Fiona Apple’s “When The Pawn...” as the next Pitchfork x VMP exclusive! 🙏

Well, the 20th Anniversary is November 9th so I’m hoping we see something before or on that day. 🤞

And VMP also commented on Pitchfork’s glowing Sunday review of Fiona Apple’s “When The Pawn...” ⚠️⚠️⚠️

Like surely we are getting Fiona Apple’s “When The Pawn...” sometime soon! I would love playing that album on vinyl on a sunny day after I’ve taken a shower, feeling fresh! But I’d also love playing that album while being in bed, having a hot chocolate lol

What do you think of Jewel?

Jewel - Pieces of You album is a '90s classic
I definitely prefer Fiona Apple’s voice more than Jewel’s. Fiona Apple is very expressive when she sings, and I think her vocals are extremely sexy, rich and sensual! Her vocals are a masterclass in my opinion!

I briefly checked out Pieces of You and I’m not the biggest fan of Jewel’s vocals! It has that cowboy/country aesthetic if you know what I mean. And from previewing “Pieces Of You”, it’s not my thing. It doesn’t have that jazzy undertone to it, like Fiona Apple’s “Tidal”, and instrumentally, it’s not for me. If I liked her voice, I’d probably be more interested in the album!

I haven’t heard her music! I actually typed in “Fiona Apple - Jewel” on Google because I thought you were talking about a Fiona Apple song! 😂🙈

Do you like Jewel? I have a feeling I would prefer Fiona Apple way more! But you never know!

I don’t think you’d like her much. But I was surprised to hear you refer to fiona’s Music as sexy and then the thought just popped into my head to ask you about other women from the middle 90’s.

comparing Fiona Apple's music and Jewel's music is like comparing, well I don't know, it's not fair. Fiona is an artist, Jewel is a has been minor pop star.

Jewel was a major artist in the 90s, and certainly commands a certain amount of respect. Personally, I find her music less timeless, and I don’t really think it’s a fault of her own. I think her style was much more copied (due to commercial success) and it just became a sound of the mid-90s.
Fiona was much less frequently borrowed from in the limelight, making her sound feel more unique and possibly more genuine to some.

But in pure isolation, I think they are both strong artists with very different styles that get lumped into the same group.

I don't tend to listen to either one in 2019, but they are both really strong song writers.
