Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

@Murfocakes - Don’t be cheeky and tell me to cut the chord with VMP when you still want to buy records from them! 😂😂😂

I’ll at least always stay subscribed because of their Classics and R&HH ROTM track and mostly amazing Essentials ROTM track. Like the three ROTM tracks is what will always make me stay a member. Only time I’ll stop being a member is when they stop doing free international shipping/stop shipping to Australia. Which I could definitely imagine happening in the future unfortunately.

oh..

goddammit i was hoping this would have some hope to it
I found a pic of the van Storfer is gonna pick them up in:

Abandon all hope ye who enter VMP.

Storf said they'd be trying to get them back lol

Talk about a home run civil court suit if they tried anything beyond making it wayyy worth the while of the recipient. There are multiple instances. A judge would tell VMP to fuck off and fix their warehouse.

It would take like, VMP for life memberships to offset the financial advantage of keeping them

A good reminder:
According to the Federal Trade Commission, you have a legal right to keep unordered merchandise and consider it a free gift. That’s because federal law prohibits mailing unordered merchandise to consumers and then demanding payment.

this is a really nice and well communicated post...

i do understand a lot of the frustration here especially over things like the removal of month to month and the swaps issue..

i guess i put too much passion into this and maybe had a bit too much sunk cost fallacy.. this entire situation with mobb deep is complete bullshit.. i'm hoping they are right and it only happened to a few people, if not goddammit i dunno what to do with my sub (nothing i want in the store, no other places i know that give me free shipping AND pretty colors, and not even interested in what will inevitably be a boring January)...

The more that they raise the prices, the more that the "Free shipping" doesn't mean a whole lot, unfortunately

If you've ever been in a fucked up relationship with anyone, whether it's romantic or business or anything else, it's easy to understand how difficult it can be to know when to leave something. And, even if you do leave, that doesn't mean that there wasn't any value before or that nothing ever really mattered. Things simply change. Sometimes, something is worth something until it just isn't worth it anymore. It also doesn't invalidate the good parts from the past. Instead, it can just piss you off even more, because you know that things COULD be better.

That's how I feel with VMP. They didn't have to go and fuck everything up. Everything they do is a domino effect of everything else they've done and trying to fix bullshit decisions. They never had to close the forum. They never had to invest in anoraks. They fuck something up and then, to solve that problem, take something else away from the members. They just took one months away AND fucked with swapping. MEanwhile, they make things open to non-members and offer them the chance to buy 5 copies a piece. HOw does that make sense. They "solve" these things by jacking up the prices. Every decision they make trickles down to fucking the customer, while they are telling us that these choices are being done for our benefit.

@NathanRicaud just mentioned what he likes about this place, but I think the important thing to remember is that everything that he says that he likes about this place is what VMP worked to eliminate. They even tried to eliminate us. A CLUB is against their business model. A community is dangerous, because members communicate and, by communicating, realize how widespread issues are, while discovering other issues they weren't even aware of.

THink about this one thing for a minute... What happened when VMP continued to send me damaged packages month after month? Did they ever adjust the shipping practice or do anything at all to fix them? I mean, they actually emailed me and told me that this was an issue that they were aware of and then told me the same thing like a year later. What they did instead was change their exchange policy on the sly. So, they didnt' stop sending members damaged shit, they just told you that you were going to need to expect and accept it. That's really all you need to know about the entire company. It says a lot.

maybe when i cancel turntable labs will fix that need for new colored vinyl that critics like (or at least get reccomended enough to make me wanna listen because i aint got time to listen to everything)... its mostly just the store dependent on exclusives of artists that are acclaimed and popular that i stay now.. so unless february through april are amazing.. im cancelling (i mostly just love buying stuff)

Idler Wheel wasn't even a member exclusive. Hopefully, When The Pawn will be the same situation

I see they STILL haven’t hired any adults. I implored them to do that so many times it was basically my mantra at the old place. They desperately need to hire some adults who are qualified, experienced, and capable of ensuring folks do their fucking jobs.

I was *this* close to ordering Fiona. I’m actually thankful for them pulling this fuckup and reminding me why they are not getting a dime of my money.

I’m at the point where I’m stuck in a one month sub if I wanna keep VMP. I want Aretha Franklin but I don’t wanna support them any longer. I just know they’re gonna drop something next month after they go through all of this and get more people to sign up, and the only option would be to sign up for a 3 month. Man it sucks that they get so many high profile releases that it’s really tough to not buy into it.

All I’ll say is that they’re not even getting exclusivity over their essentials anymore. The QOTSA in stores is exactly the same record and mastering, just on black vinyl and I can get a black mono Aretha for €16.99 in my local store. I’m feeling a little dumb over my FOMO 3 month sub for QOTSA even though it’s a great package. Trying desperately to now embrace JOMO...

tbh it seems like from the stuff they said about announcing the next 3 months of thing.. it seems like that big month will be february

also

BUT ITS SO PRETTY (legit i only really care about the color variants... if its an album i'd clearly love i'd buy anywhere but i love colored vinyl)

coincidentally idler wheel was the only fiona apple i really understood why everyone loved (tidal was too traditional and when the pawn did nothing for me)

The interesting thing here is that everyone didn't actually love Idler Wheel, but it's definitely the one that I love. I got on the guestlist to photograph/cover the Idler Wheel tour, because I knew my girlfriend is a fan, but I told her she'd have to write the review. I didn't care either way. THen I saw her and heard her do her old songs without all of the productions and shit that they threw on them in the 90s when there was a label behind her trying to make her marketable. They sounded amazing. The whole show was amazing.

A lot of old school fans had the opposite reaction and couldn't get into Idler Wheel. It was too stripped down for them. If you're anything like me, you might enjoy reading the Amazon reviews for it. So many people were pissed.

True - but is it worth it to pay a bit more on the 2nd market/Discogs/flippers in order to not deal with trying to guess month-to-month / / getting stuck with the inevitable shit months? MOST 2nd market VMP titles aren't THAT much more than retail. There are some exceptions, but not many.

That's my mentality now, at least. If I MUST get something, I'll get it indirectly.

both QOTSA and Aretha are gorgeous colour versions, I’ve got to give them that. Gotta admit I like to see a nice colour spinning but at the end of the day I’m in this game for the music so pressing/mastering/the music are always more important for me.
