Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

I know a lot of people have warping issues from VMP. What percentage of records are received damaged from them? Iā€™ve ordered a number of records this month from VMP, Magnolia, Third Man, Amazon, and my local record store. My 6 records from Magnolia were all warped, my Coldplay and Patsy Cline were warped from TMR, my Aretha is warped from VMP, and 4 records were warped from Amazon. Am I just this unlucky, or is this a major problem everyone has?
I have been getting warps from everywhere too! New releases from Bandcamp/artists store, Vinyl Me, Please, from Secretly Store, HHV exclusives, Friday Music, Turntable lab exclusives etc. The worst was Urban Outfitters and Bluenote 75. Bluenote 75 was by far the worst though. The best experience Iā€™ve had with warps, and just any other defects, has been MoFi, Analogue Production pressings, Light In The Attic and the Bluenote Tone Poet series. Iā€™ve never had a defect with any of those places/series! šŸ’Žā™„šŸ‘Œ

Music On Vinyl pressings and VMP Classics pressings have also been generally excellent! šŸ‘

But yes, overall, warping is a big and common issue in the vinyl production industry right now! šŸ˜”

I very rarely get warped records and am not sure if Iā€™m a lucky one or not. Iā€™ve maybe had one or two VMP records warped in 4 years of subscribing on and off. Wonder if itā€™s an issue with your post office somehow instead of the sellers?

I assume it could be the post office mishandling things, but I just donā€™t think it would be almost everything arriving damaged if so. The packages are always in great shape when I get them, and Iā€™ve rarely ever had any damage with packaging. I live in TN, so Iā€™m only a state away from VMP. Our summers donā€™t get too hot, but even if it did, the packages arenā€™t out for long periods of time.

I'm in California and have never had any damage with any of my records

Iā€™m in Australia and have only had one delivery that was damaged! And the package was severely damaged! I got a non-VMP Kero Kero Bonito album, and when I opened it, the record was literally broken into two pieces! šŸ’šŸ¤¦ā€ā™‚ļø

I luckily got it replaced straight away and my replacement was in perfect condition! So Iā€™ve been very fortunate with my VMP packages, especially considering that I live in Australia šŸØšŸŠ

Iā€™ll counter that optimism with this, the worst of my many shitty book warps...

That is baaaad! šŸ™…ā€ā™‚ļø

The worst of my warps have come from Bluenote 75! But I donā€™t have any footage of them, because they were literally all thrown in the bin! Good lesson learnt for me though to really do my research and to look up other forums - Steve Hoffman - before purchasing from a label/series!

My Urban Outfitters Lizzo ā€œCuz I Love Youā€ exclusive was also extremely warped, like, it was doing full-on slow motion body rolls!

Outside of VMP Iā€™ve had 5 notable warps. Three in one package of Bob Dylan, all of which I pressed out using a heavy box set, and two in store, one dish that had to go back and one that the clamp eliminated overnight. This is why Iā€™m so touchy about the amount of warps I get from VMP, because I know other places can do it right!

Mmmmmm I hear you on that one! And I think itā€™s good to be touchy about the amount of warps you get from VMP, as they must no itā€™s unacceptable for the pressing plants to be making a lot of vinyl that ends up being defected and then packaged! VMP also need to be aware that if they receive too much warps, then they might have to change providers, unless they are willing to give out a lot of refunds/replacements!

Oh Nathan, you are so wonderfully, or maybe wilfully, naive! They wonā€™t change plants because GZ pump out volume for a good price. Thatā€™s all they care about. They were giving out loads of replacements so they just made their replacement policy stricter.

Came back from the holidays and finally got some records from VMP, this really puts the cherry on top for December...

If you look closely, you can see the word ā€œholdā€ written on the top package.View attachment 27890
Ugh that really sucks. The post office screwed up and their parcel runner for the holidays delivered two packages full of records while I had a mail hold on too. Luckily I caught it early after checking informed delivery and contacting the post office. Otherwise they would have been outside on my front porch for a week.

I do like GZ in general though! Like their pressings sound great, even though thereā€™s a good chance you will receive a warped record from them!

Theyā€™re average, at best. Their selling point is lots fast, not quality. Itā€™s not a surprise that there are so many no fill, warp and crackle issues with VMP pressings given that they use them so often...

Have you met @Mather ? I think he may have started a support group.

In the two years that Iā€™ve been collecting records I have received 3 warped records in the mail. Only one of which has come from VMP.
