Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Thank you so much and I'm definitely going to be! 🎉 Ready to find those treats! 🎁🔎👀

I'm susceptible to hype, fomo and indecision so I'm sure I'll be having a little cocktail party with all three when it hits 🍸💃 . Good thing about being new though is that there's so much out there that's fantastic and I don't have – so even in the case of missing the rare ones I know I'll be able to end up with some great music regardless. Though not having much also makes the indecision around what to get worse 🙈 what if the rare one sells out in the time it takes me to check this tab for recommendations Nathan 😂

Thank you for the record thoughts and well wishes too, appreciated and I'm glad you're enjoying the Denzel Curry x Kenny Beats release! Would definitely be a great one to catch if it popped up. So.. just that, the Anthologies, Woodstock, Otis or other surprises to look out for and react to in the time it takes the photons to go from the screen to hitting my eyes. Easy task I'm sure 💀🤭
I love your personality and energy by the way! It’s so cute and cheeky! 😚🧸

If you definitely have FOMO, then definitely grab the “swap exclusives” in the Swaptions! But definitely grab it if you like the genre the record is in! No point of grabbing a hip-hop VMP exclusive if you don’t enjoy rap/hip-hop, nah mean!? 😜👉🤛

Because you have so many options as you don’t have much VMP exclusives, you will be spoilt. Though I do know what you mean! We’ve all grabbed an exclusive that has stayed in store for a long time and wished we grabbed the other exclusive instead (which sold out). I can and others on here can too, with giving you an idea on which albums would be close to selling out, and which albums will likely stay in store for a long time! 💡👨‍💻👩‍💻☺️

But yes, grab any Anthology exclusive, even if it’s just a single record as the vinyl pressings sound amazing for them! And grab any Classics ROTM that happens to appear in the Swaptions (that previously sold out in the VMP Store!). 🏃‍♂️💨

Wait, you do? I thought the new policy was that you have one chance to swap, it's locked in, that's it. Tell me more about this "another chance."

Thanks, Nathan. Good luck to you too.
My bad, I worded that badly! 🙈😝

What I meant to say is that because we have two add-on subscriptions, we can swap two ROTM picks!

So if you swap once (let’s say you swap your Essentials ROTM pick), you can swap another ROTM title (Your Classics or R&HH ROTM).

You can technically swap multiple times on your added tracks but it’s a bit of a gamble. If you swap and confirm, and then see something else you like, you can cancel your add-on track and then add it again and your swap resets. The downside is if that add-on track sells out then you’re out of luck. So if your add-on is Classics, I wouldn’t cancel it since it almost always sells out as of late.

While I benefited from the Woodstock swap, I have my doubts as to whether we will see anything from the Anthology entries in swaps. One of the biggest reasons is that it would require a landing page for those and it would cheapen the Anthology line which they clearly think is a premium product. My best guess is that you see a few things that had otherwise been out of stock, perhaps a few more Woodstocks, and perhaps a few of the 3rd party items listed in the store.

Mmmmmm that’s a very strong point! Like, they do make it out to be a premium product so it would make sense for them not to put any of it in the Swaptions!

I’m really hoping we get the Whitney Houston self-titled exclusive! That would be a sweet pick-up! 🤞

This is a great point @wmeugene. I wonder if its going to be similar to the old Throwback Thursday? A small amount of sold out stock that they 'find' in their warehouse.

Still blow my mind that @Plaid Room / Colemine wasn't Ohio's pick.

I know I was the one who kicked over the ant pile on this I won't go off on it like I could, but yeah the majority of the entries are written by very, very few people that have long term connections with the record store/local music scenes in their cities and states. They just picked the trendiest store, threw something together, padded it out with their creative writing practices on local politics and declared it a delicious meataballa.

I'm just mad because what could have been a fantastic, well researched look into regional record stores and what made them great, with stories from young and old about growing up with these places, bands discovered, even artists that got boosts from them..was instead just a bunch of lazy essays provoking images of a mass of random storefronts with the same indie "bestsellers" on the wall packaged with a lot of irrelevant commentary.

I mean I hate that book.

I know this won't be a very good substitute with you being US-based, but there's a great book here in the UK which basically sounds like what you are thinking of. Its called 'The Vinyl Revival And The Shops That Made It Happen' by Graham Jones. Graham spent 30+ years travelling across the UK to every single independent record store, selling records on behalf of labels. At this time the music charts relied on sales slips from these independent stores and would send representatives to collect these sales figures each week. This meant that there was real competition amongst record labels to incentivise the independent stores to promote and highlight their stock, with each shop holding events, competitions, etc. Years later the independent stores obviously struggled and many closed, and Graham then travelled to the remaining ones to collect anecdotes and stories, which forms the second half of the book.

Ooooh cheers @NathanRicaud. In that case I will swap out Stevie if something good is in swaps as that's likely to make it to next month/the store. Yeah I dig Stevie, Nathan. My girlfriend really likes Fleetwood Mac (I thoroughly recommend the book 'Storms: My Life with Lindsey Buckingham and "Fleetwood Mac" by Carol Ann Harris, its INSANE!) and we have a couple of Stevie's albums as well, so I will definitely be up for this VMP release if there isn't any big swaps.
I'm Team Swap too!

That Whitney is the one swap I’d be tempted by. I badly want that but the price now is hard to swallow, especially because I only really want disc 1. Dont care for remixes at all....
Even with the coupon I couldnt convince myself to pay $50+ for it.

Anthology I’d be shocked to see but I could them putting individual records from the boxes in swaps. This way it doesnt cheapen Anthology but gives people the opportunity to grab their most wanted titles. I already have all of them but I think this would be a good idea for “swap exclusives”.

I agree. Plus the Anthology albums ship out of a different warehouse and are on a different platform, etc. I’d be shocked if they added anthology.

Might as well throw it out, if they do break up the anthology what albums are the real standouts?

Also if they put the AP pressings in swaps is it safe to choose anyone or are some better than others?

My personal favorites (I think, I honestly love all 4 sets so much).
Blue Note : Horace Silver, Dexter Gordon, Wayne Shorter
Motown: Mary Wells, Martha and the Vandellas, The Supremes
Ghostly: Ghostly Swim 1, Shigeto, Choir of Young Believers
Stax: I don't even know if I can narrow it down without many more listens. They're all great.

Gonna be a swap month for me, I think. Not interested in SnP. Can't deny their importance, but that doesn't mean I have any interest in listening to the full album. I would already have Stevie if I wanted that bargain bin record. I like the Erroll Garner, but if I really want that, I feel like I should get an AAA original for $10.

I would like the El-P to come back for swaps. Otherwise I'll probably go for Yves Tumor if that's available.

Yves Tumor would be a fantastic swap for anyone who don't own it. Highly recommend it.
