Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

i mean I love mofi versions of albums I like but their A&R seriously needs shaking up. It seems aimed at my dad and he would love a Cyndi Lauper yet would be all Fiona Who? Also nowt wrong with Cyndi!
I’d be willing to bet that the dad demographic is still the demo that is more willing to pay the MoFi prices, although nowadays regular 1LP prices are approaching that level. If they expanded to more modern albums they would clean up.

They went through the effort to show that image, so I'm hoping it's the cover and the red is a slipcase of sorts, whether it's solid or transparent. I like how they state that the cover was selected "by Fiona herself!" They present it like a feature, but it's really a way to say, "Don't fucking blame us."
Even with that side note of theirs, people are blaming VMP for it and it’s funny to see people say “I’m not paying $40 for that album cover!” as opposed to “I’m not paying $40 for a 1LP pressed at GZ”.

I mean I’m almost in my 40s and am beginning to get disposable income and they’ve not moved near my youth (late 90s/early 00s) yet, never mind contemporary stuff. I’m willing to bet that it’s much more to do with the age in their mastering room and A&R than it is to do with potential consumer base

If Music Matters Jazz put this out, I'd have no problem paying that price due to the extreme care they take when putting out an album. VMP is no MMJ, though.

So as excited as I am about this album, and as long as I've been waiting, that's gonna be a pass for me, dawg.

"Released exclusively through the Vinyl Me, Please store, it comes on 180-gram black vinyl, and upon her request, worked closely with Fiona and her team to re-imagine the artwork for this album."

First, who writes this run on shit. Second, they needed to help her re-imagine a red cover with three words from the title on it? Hopefully its more elaborate than that.

I can't get it to work either. I could talk myself into going against my better judgment and supporting a VMP release of this at $34. Zero percent chance I'm paying $49 for a non-limited, single LP from anyone, but especially not from them.

It's got terrible artwork, it's GZ pressed, it's a digital source, it's mastered for vinyl by a guy who has comparatively began to dabble in the craft compared to his peers. Literally nothing about this warrants a $45 price.

EXACTLY

When MMJ puts out an album, you can bet your sweet bippity that Ron Rambach personally went into the vaults/archives to source the best quality master AND was a part of the mastering process. You can also bet that he spends an inordinate amount of time ensuring the cover, images, etc. are as exacting as possible because he, like us, is an extreme vinyl nerd and those details matter. We could pretty much ask him any question we wanted about how the album was curated, crafted, mastered, and put out and he'd be able to answer in detail right off the top of his head. He'd also be able to tell us the history of the artist, album, etc and its place in the lexicon of that genre.

I bet we could ask the CEO, COO or anyone else at VMP those same questions and get crickets or blank stares. Yeah, pass. If I'm going to be paying a premium price it should be for a premium product where the level of care matches my own on the album.

imagine my bank balance 🤪

They’d have to work from digital though because the masters don’t exist anymore. Well unless someone fancies collecting all the bits of tape from all of the A Moon Shaped Pool special editions and trying to piece them back together...

They can have my tape segment, but I'm going to require one disc of a VMP double-LP test pressing is exchange

VMP right now: "Man, we could probably kick their dog, steal their car, tease an album for 3 years, charge $500 for that album knowing it will be available elsewhere soon, and these guys will STILL throw money at us. I mean we currently have no QC, no inventory management, a horrible C Suite, questionable shipping practices and they STILL throw money at us. Why on earth would we change??? Let's find other ways to completely fuck over our "members", this is fun!"

SMH.

$40.

That price is ridiculous.
