Vinyl Me Please (store, exclusives, swaps, etc)

Not buying a record you really want to own the libs...err VMP. All joking aside, If this is something that ya REALLY wanted on wax you should purchase it while it’s available, yes it is over priced and the cover art is less than ideal but hoping it will be made available elsewhere or via swaps or on sale is how ya miss out. I get it if you are not a big fan but if this is something really wanted and have the means to do so. Now is the time to make it happen.

I think you kind of overlook WHY a lot of people have issues with VMP. Reasons include being over/double-charged, receiving damaged items and being accused of trying to scam them when asking for replacements, fighting for refunds, having their money tied up for months on end with complete radio silence, etc. etc.etc. To imply the reason why someone who chooses not to purchase something is doing that is kind of dismissive.

For a lot of folks, the actual process and headache involved in placing orders itself is the issue. You comment as if it's just that simple and guaranteed that, if you place an order it shows up timely and without issue, and that, if you don't grab it, it's out of spite. In reality, we're in the middle of a pendemic where it can actually be a big decision where and how individuals spend their money. If this is a situation where they feel they might have their funds tied up indefinitely in delays for something that will ultimately be available down the road, it's not petty or childish for them to weigh that out and determine whether or not they are willing to engage with a company that has a record of complicating things and not delivering. Maybe they don't want to give money to a company that they feel has demonstrated a complete lack of respect for them. That's not trying to make a point by "owning the libs." It's actually kind of shitty to frame it that way.

I was one that on the old forum bugged the shit out of Storf to get info on a "When The Pawn" release, and I'm totally excited that it's finally out, but I think I'm going to wait it out.
I still have a chip on my shoulder with VMP, and while I could miss out, I think the way I'm reading it is there can be a chance this gets a larger non-exclusive release later down the line. I've waited this long - I can hold out, and I've got all her other albums already to keep me company on vinyl :)

I mean, there are factors to weigh out and I definitely bought it -- I've been promising my wife that she'd have it for 3 years now -- but, with this community, I feel like someone will help you acquire a copy, one way or another, if it really came down to it.

I've gone back and forth on my feelings about VMP post-forum shutdown, but those feeling have never veered outside of pure indifference, anger or annoyance. I want to remain ambivalent but VMP and their bullshit is constantly pushed all over the forum and it bugs the shit out of me. VMP represents everything I've grown to hate about this hobby and any other retailer that conducts themselves the way they do would have gone under months ago. So much of this thread is just people complaining about how much VMP fucks shit up but all that bitching doesn't amount to much when you consider that VMP can still sell a $50 record with ease. Do whatever you want with your money but the only purpose this thread really serves at this point is promoting VMP and sending VMP the message that they can screw up as much as they want and people will still throw money at them.

I will let you catch up to the rest of the conversation, but also point out that I stated I was joking with my opening remark, let me apologize if it came off as callous. There are many reasons not to purchase something I felt like I was being fairly specific on why I felt it would be a bad move not to purchase something that you wanted to spite VMP. I am of the opinion that this would hurt a fan of the album more than it would hurt VMP in the long run. The main point was if you have the means to purchase the record and you are a fan don’t let VMP fuck you out of the opportunity of owning it. I also never said that it was Petty or Childish not to purchase the albums I would attempt to explain my joke further but it clearly was not funny as I must of struck a nerve in a way that was certainly unintentional on my part. So let me apologize again and say do whatever the fuck you wanna do it’s your money. I am just another asshole on a message board. Pay me no mind.

Also, if anyone Is curious, I just got a Refund on my Fetch The Bolt Cutters purchase that I placed from Fiona Apple’s online store. I requested a cancellation about a week ago.
how did you phrase your request? I got a response from them today denying my request. I made up a story about COVID related financial hardship too. I felt a little shitty about it but they denied it anyway! Lol

That sucks, I emailed them at sonymusic@musictoday.com and my email was short and sweet...

Title: Please cancel Order [order #]

Greetings,

I recently ordered the new Fiona Apple LP (order number: [order #]) and would now like to cancel the order. Please issue a full refund.

Thanks,

I did also paid via PayPal so if they didn’t refund my money I would have filed a claim, I don’t know if that was a consideration also.

So, I jumped all over When The Pawn today, but I won't lie when I say that I had expected more given the price point. This was very much a no-frills offering, and that's fine. But the price point is definitely excessive for non-members, and high by market standards for members.

When The Pawn has probably been the most consistently demanded VMP title for nearly 2 years straight (since Tidal dropped), and is by far the lowest effort "hyped" title from VMP in quite a while. Blame Fiona for wanting to change the cover, but the folks at VMP had a hand in creating whatever that jacket was supposed to be. They also decided to press it at GZ, which is not known for quality. It's a single LP, stretching side B to over 22 minutes of music which is likely to cause some IGD on many entry level tables and styli.

The price point on this is 33% higher than Idler Wheeler, which makes no sense when they're both no-frills. At least Idler Wheel had cover art.

Ultimately I'm super stoked to finally have this on vinyl. I just feel like it was a missed opportunity to do something bigger for this album's first time on vinyl.

Where did you find that email associated with the order?
