Vinyl Storage Recommendation

Think I’ve narrowed down my USM wallet-killing strategy to two plans:

There’s two walls where Kallaxes currently sit, one that has about 50” of width available and another that has about 75 comfortably. With that in mind, my plans are:

Shorter wall: https://www.symbolaudio.com/products/usm-record-stand-45
Longer wall: https://www.symbolaudio.com/products/usm-vinyl-storage-cabinet-x4

Shorter wall: https://www.symbolaudio.com/products/usm-vinyl-display-cabinet-3x1 OR https://www.symbolaudio.com/products/usm-vinyl-storage-cabinet-x3
Longer wall: USM Haller Low Media Console – Design Within Reach OR https://www.symbolaudio.com/products/usm-haller-credenza-c2a

Would get the media storage option first to move my hifi setup and ebentuslly replace the Kallax.

Now time to go get twelve extra jobs to afford these.

At those prices I'm thinking a DIY option is the way to go. I need to learn some new skills.

Whilst it wouldn’t be as cheap as a home build, and probably still wouldn’t be cheap cheap, I think you’d be surprised how nice a piece you’d get for your money if you planned and specified a couple of shelves with a good local carpenter.

I live in an apartment; there’s no place to store tools. Also I have a degree in philosophy, I’m more cerebral than a handy person. I’m fine paying a small premium for a legacy furniture piece. They are also modular so they can grow with me or be employed in other applications down the line.

I dont have a car, kids, a spouse, etc so it’s not like there’s anything else that my money NEEDS to be spent on. Except my student loans but lmfao no.

I came across these with a cursory google search. Has anyone heard of this company before? Not a terrible price if they’re solid wood. I also keep both my 2x4 Kallaxes on their side vertically so this could work.

Thanks to everyone here who helped in the decision making process.
I also am considering those shelves, they look AWESOME! What style finish is that? did you go with this combination? their website is definitely a little confusing to see what is what.

Also, did you upgrade from Kallaxes and feel like this is comparable in terms of storage?

I went with the finished red oak and added the inlays + one for the top. Looks like the same one you have selected. They hold more than the 2x4 Kallax. I did the math via inches and can't remember what it came to but everything my Kallax held fit onto 4 1/2 shelves.

I was then able to move my jazz, pop and electronic off other storage shelves, take all my duplicates / warps out of a box in storage, put a bunch of books on a bottom shelf and fit my record cleaner in there.

That's good to hear! They look smaller than kallaxes and even so in your pictures but that's good if they can hold a little more. The kallaxes do have some dead space in the front or the back depending on where the records fit flush with the edge. And with the middle piece removed on each row that's a little more room too.

I really like the walnut color finish since I have some darker furniture to match with. However, those are starting at $1,099 for that finish so I might still wait until later in the year before that kind of expense. Especially if I'm getting two shelves 😳

Poor explanation on my part.

Each shelf is 27" long x 4 with no dividers in there. So I guess what I'm saying is that they are a touch smaller than a Kallax but when you combine the two of them, it's way more space even though two of them = 8 shelves. The two shelves, side by side, take up 54" instead of 58.

A fully stacked Kallax took up one full shelf plus 1/2 of a shelf on the second one.

Aaahh okay that makes sense! I’m okay if I need to downsize a little bit. I have the room for more records but I probably should cull. Right now I have two full 2x4’s for LPs and 3 out of the 4 cubes in a 2x2 for box sets.

these are the ones I have. They are stackable/modular. The price went up since I bought mine about 5 years ago, but I did just buy a "scratch and dent" one and saved a bunch of money. There was nothing I could see wrong with it.

Forgive the mess--I'm reorganizing my office at the moment and moving stuff around...

The shelves come without any inlays. I'd recommend the inlays on the bottom for every shelf to create a flat shelf all the way across. These are inserted while building the shelves so they are locked in. See here--darker wood is the inlay:

Then for only the top shelves in each stack, I got the inlays for the top. These just pop in and out--they are not attached in. But without them, the shelf is open on top. Adding the inlay allows you to put stuff on top of the shelves.

Hopefully this all makes sense hah.

The LP module ones are different size/design I believe so the inlays are not interchangeable with the artisans. I got the Artisans because it allows me to add more later or change the configuration. I previously had these stacked 4 high and then 3 high next to it, and then moved them to a wider wall and stacked them less.

Also worth noting--I don't think these fit box sets if that's a deal breaker.

That Massive Attack is such a spectacular album man. I have a new favorite everytime I listen to that one. Surprisingly my fave massive attack album

It’s cut by Tim Young, the GOAT too. Really awesome cut/pressing. Only complaint is the jacket is gigantic and doesn’t fit in any of my vinyl storage solution sleeves—even the 13”!

Had an issue where some of the slats on my BDI Corridor were bowing, really standing out in such a streamlined design. Not something I'd raise a stink about it if were IKEA, but for the price felt like I should contact them. Expected a hassle but they stood by their product and are sending me some replacement doors. Just wanted to shout out when a company does right with zero fuss, it's becoming a rarity these days.
