Welcome - Introduce Yourself Here

New forum new me aka new profile picture. Also I got rid of the underscore from my old username so yay for that!

I guess I’ll reintroduce myself since I’ve been inactive for quite a while. My name is Dave and I’m currently residing in Minneapolis MN. Interests include alcohol, concerts, and records. Also, I’m going back to grad school in the fall so I’m excited for that! Sadly, I’ll be busy but I will try my best to be more active.

Edit: Props to everyone involved in getting this place up and running. I have a few PIFs that I need to give away while I have some free time :)

Duuuuuuuuuuude, let's nerd out about indie film!

Anytime, any day. Last year was my favorite year for film since 2011 too.

According to my phone, the favs from 2018 were:

Tier 1: Roma, You Were Never Really Here, Burning, Sorry to Bother You, First Reformed, A Star is Born, Leave No Trace
Tier 2: 3 Identical Strangers, Eighth Grade, Thoroughbreds, American Animals, KKKlansmen, Heredity, Shoplifters
Tier 3: The Favourite, Widows, Annihilation, Free Solo, Bad Times at the El Royal, Vox Lux

But perhaps this convo should be moved to a different thread.

What sorta African stuff are you listening to?
Mostly West African from 70s and 80s with some Ethiopia, Congo, South Africa thrown in as well. Bands that broke out like Poly-Rythmo and Orchestre Baobab and others such as African Brothers Band, Black Santiago, Etoile de Dakar etc. Fair to say the funkier side although a lot is v mellow too. Bought a fair amount of OGs in the past decade and it's addictive.

Probably. I love what Cuaron pulled off with the ArriFlex 65mm but the movie itself felt labored at times and bloated. Some great individual moments. I'm glad someone else realizes how good Lynn Ramsey is. She should direct a Bond movie.

The new place is looking great! Glad to be here...and thanks to those who did all the work to turn the lights on.

New avatar for a new forum. Stephen is the name...I live in Portland, Oregon with my wife and two daughters (ages 10 and 12), and our chocolate lab Tilly Jane. Have long been a fan of live music, grew up with vinyl and only got back into it about 3 years ago. Our family loves travel, and adventures of all kinds outside, so when we have time we pack up the Eurovan and are off camping, hiking, skiing, backpacking, etc. For a variety of reasons, the Pacific Northwest is a pretty great place to call home.

You probably know about it, but if not, my old friend Moss has a label that reissues a bunch of rare stuff and his main focus right now is basically the Zamrock scene. I would say a good portion of Now Again's African sstuff has been sourced from him.. and he was in the process of digging up tapes and old masters and shit. His label is/was Strawberry Rain but they haven't released anything in a bit so .. who knows, but the African stuff they did do is fantastic.

Great stuff - yes, I've got a couple of their things and thought they were cool

Hey everyone! Was just getting active on the old forums, when things took a turn. Perfect time for an introduction though.

My name is Korey. Currently living in Arizona and somewhat newly married (been a year and a half). Outside of vinyl, I'm an avid gamer and love trying new craft beers. Looking forward to being on the ground floor of the new forums!
