What's Going On Up There- The Headphone Thread

are...Cole's Notes...Canadian Cliff's Notes...??

headphone hiss is often caused by an impedance mismatch, I think. they do sell adapters to increase the input impedance of the headphones, but they may affect your max volume by a little bit.

you want the output impedance of your headphone amp to be significantly lower than the input impedance of your headphones. if the impedance is all in line, then it probably comes down to sensitivity, though your amp is probably pretty solid (?) in this respect.
Also yes, Coles notes are Cliffs notes.

It certainly might, it would make sense since the thing is dead quiet otherwise. It seems to mostly only happen when I'm on vinyl, and I know the RMS output is higher this way so I'm not sure how that changes it. But it may be something unavoidable with this amp without a separate headphone amp.
SWAG here. The headphone out on your amp may not be handling the boosted signal coming from your phono preamp well. Do you run headphones directly from the Bluesound or through the Arcam?

Also, your records deserve a headphone upgrade. I am happy to help you spend your money on better headphones. ;)

Haha well I NEVER listen to music through my headphones, so this isn't a huge deal. If I did I would get a headphone amp for sure. But I have to upgrade the headphones either way so I figured I'd better get something that is in line with the amp output. I've so far resisted buying fancy headphones for at home since I pretty much exclusively use them for movies and games. However for high res Tidal listening when I'm out I have a Questyle M15 DAC and Campfire Andromeda 2020 IEMs and those things are AWESOME.
