Dizzy Gillespie & Gerry Mulligan - Volume 42 (Curcio, 1981 Blue Box Set)

So this is a bit of an oddity, but one I stand buy as being well worth the small amount of money it costs to buy the box set. In the 1980's Italian publishing house 'Curcio Editore' released a vinyl series entitled 'I Giganti del Jazz' (Giants of Jazz). These compilations usually focused on 2 artists per record, which were seemingly paired at random. What's amazing about these is that most of them are live recordings which can't be found anywhere else on wax. I have done a TON of research into each one of these (thinking I might post each one on my Instagram) and a lot of these dates are just amazing. This one sees Dizzy Gillespie's bad touring in Europe in 1956 where they brought along the French trumpeter and bandleader, Hubert Fol. This is one of the only instances of Fol being recorded. Paired (randomly) with these recordings is an informal jam session from Gerry Mulligan from 1961, an interesting date in his career as it was at this point that he decided to transition from a big band set-up to more intimate and smaller groups.

Sorry for the essay......I got carried away :ROFLMAO:
