#238: Run The Jewels - Run The Jewels

Is it just me, or the debut RTJ album doesn't get enough love? I mean, its not their best, and neither is it my favorite, but I feel like the subsequent ones are way more hyped and doscussed, when this one is very similar in style and quality.

I actually have the same impression. I think RTJ 1 is really amazing, I was blown away when I had mine on the turntable for the first time.

A quietly brilliant band

One of the missing pieces of my B&S collection that is should rectify. I want one of the RTI reissue from around 2008 but haven’t yet pulled the trigger. Did you see they are reissuing the Push The Barman comp on a 3xLP clear vinyl? I probably need to pick that up too. There is no way I would every be able to track down all their non-album singles and some of em are soooo great.

My war on shrink will consume you all...

"We live in a world that has shrink wrap, and those have to be guarded by men with records. Whose gonna do it you, you @Joe Mac? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom.

My existence while grotesque and incomprehensible, to you, saves album sleeves. You don't want the truth because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties; you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall! We use words like honor, code, loyalty, We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending album art, you use them as a punch line. I have neither the time,or the inclination, to explain myself to a man, who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very mint condition albums that I can resell, and then questions the manner, in which I maintain them. I'd rather you just say 'thank you' and go on your way. "

I have outer sleeves that protect my record. Shrink is mere plastic waste, plastic was that is so omnipresent that animals living in the deepest ocean trenches, that have and never will interact with humans, have interacted with plastic waste.

Call Me: Jazz from the Penthouse - Jack Wilson Quartet

Man, Jack Wilson is fantastic. I absolutely LOVE Something Personal, and this record has a couple tracks from that outstanding album. Roy Ayers sounds great here, and the combo of piano and vibes is just magical. I really think Something Personal should be much more well known and deserves a serious repress and wider audience. Wilson's next album, Easterly Winds, is very good too-- but loses that magical quality you can get from piano and vibes (still very, very good-- just not otherworldly like Something Personal). Anyone on the fence, grab this record! And Something Personal! And demand more Jack Wilson!
