What's Spinning

Thelonious Monk Quartet With John Coltrane - At Carnegie Hall (Blue Note/Mosaic, 2018 2LP Test Pressing)

Really fantastic 'newly discovered' session from a few years back. Just a fantastic fantastic fantastic performance from the 2 masters. I lucked out and bought this test pressing for a lower price than the actual standard album release! A nice oddity for sure.

Tubby Hayes And His Orchestra, New Jazz Group & Vic Ash Quartet - Modern Jazz Scene, 1956 (Tempo Records, 1956 First Mono Pressing)

Time for a mega rare record that arrived today! This is the 2nd ever LP to be released on the Tempo label and features the incredible Tubby Hayes on the B-Side. It's an absolutely blinding session which perfectly highlights why he was king of the UK jazz scene. I bought this the other day through Facebook of all places! I saw another super rare British jazz record for sale for an incredible price and quickly bought it. I messaged the seller back and forth and asked if she had any more jazz records she was looking to sell. She came back with 3 others, a Dave Brubeck, this Tubby Hayes, and a piano compilation. She wanted crazy money for the comp (which was a cheapo reissue of a not very sought after or exciting album) and just £10 for the other 2, which I ended up buying. A crazy deal which I even brought to her attention but she told me she had done her research and was happy with the asking prices. Im buzzing.

Going thru my top 50 albums slowly - 5 at a time (from that top 50 albums thread). I'm playing Blonde Redhead - Misery Is A Butterfly. What a gem of an album - This sits at #48 when I made the list. Feels like it should be higher.
Didn't realize that it was recorded in MA.
