The Tubby Hayes Quintet - Late Spot At Scott's (Fontana, 2019 Gearbox Records Pressing)
I decided to do a comparative test of these 2 records (which meant I got to listen to them twice!!) seeing as I have some spare time. Just killer music throughout, I would have loved to be in the audience for this!

Its probably my favourite box set from a quality perspective (perhaps a music perspective as well!). Its incredible quality, with a thick box (textured taped edges) and an inner box that is conveniently shaped to allow the LP's to slide out. Each album is really well presented and the pressings are fantastic. I have a few that I have been comparing side by side and there's really very little difference, I'm seriously impressed.I’ve got to Tubby Hayes box set in transit from across the pond. Really looking forward to it. Looks like it is only a few states away. Heavy vinyl box and international shipping. What could go wrong? Fingers crossed .

I would love someone to do a box set of his Tempo releases. Most are rare as hen's teeth and there are so many that feature him as a sideman where he takes a key role.
They really are fantastic! They have put out a few by Tubby on top of this box set, I also have 'Tippin' - The Jazz Couriers Live In Morecambe 1959' and 'The Syndicate: Live At The Hopbine 1968 Vol.1' which are superb as well. I'm sure you will enjoy the box set, it's going to be a fantastic treat for you to dig into!Gearbox usually does a really good job. Tubby Hayes is arguably pretty essential to a jazz collection. I had been watching the box for awhile. Reviews are strong. And, I was worried time was running short for new retail copies. A little late night Xmas cheer last week and the rest is history.
