What's Spinning

I love how they use music in Freaks & Geeks. Usually in a period piece they try to use the music of the day to help establish the time and place that the show exists but with Freaks & Geeks, they show these kids being into Cream and Zeppelin and the Grateful Dead to set the tone because that is the music that kids would have been actually been into.

i know i’m not alone here, but f&g certainly is a show that speaks to me personally more than any other show i’ve seen. and that moment right there in that clip is the peak of that identification. and i might be embarrassing myself here but i cried again just watching it now when i posted. it’s just such a profound moment. that show was so good, and a big part of that was their ability to effectively use meaningful music.

Tina Brooks ‎– True Blue (Blue Note, 1989 Japanese Toshiba Pressing)

Following on from the Freddie Hubbard album, this one was recorded 6 days later. A blinding session and the original pressing is one of the most expensive/sought after. This Toshiba pressing isnt exactly the cheapest to find, but much more affordable. If anyone is interested then the 'Complete Blue note Recordings of Tina Brooks' Mosaic box set is worth considering as its a stunning set which also includes this LP.

How you liking that Nagoaka?
I am digging it. It sounds great to my ears. The only issue I have had so far it seems to pick up a static charge on some LPs that my old AT95E did not. So every once in a while there will be a hard static charge pop that almost sounds like a cap gun firing. It’s super infrequent and I am not someone overly futzy with wet cleaning but I might need to start just to help tamp down these occasional pops. I am not a jumpy person but man, sometime I will be listening to something quite and it will make me jump out of my seat. Anyways, I know that doesn’t sound great but outside of that it plays fantastic and I think the static thing is something I can get a handle on I am just not there yet.
