What's Spinning

The Collection Playthrough

145 - The Staves - Good Woman
146 - Freedom - Freedom

The Staves was the start of my "remainder of the S'" before I get to the Sara's. Just rock solid harmonies and their most recent has slipped a bit under the radar.

This Freedom record is a huge surprise. I saw it while bin diving and made a note to go back to listen to it on Spotify.

This thing effing rocks.

I rushed back today to see it still there. The band is a project of a couple members of Procol Harum who really leaned into that heavy psych rock of the late 60s. Deep loud grooves and all of the best remnants of that type of music. I strongly recommend a listen if you like heavy British psych or even early prog influences. Linking a video below for those interested in a band a bit lost to time. The last track on the album is Frustrated Woman but sure sounds a heckuva like Dirty Water to me...

If you dig that Freedom you should check out the Brown Acid series on Riding Easy Records.

It's a compilation series of predominantly regional/one-off bands that never got wide distribution. Sometimes they never even pressed a full blown record. Fun stuff. Volume 13 is about to be released. Here's a link to the first...

I apologize in advance of the stream of soundtracks/scores I will be playing in the near future.

Some of these I pre-ordered a while ago and are finally getting shipped out.

I originally ordered the yellow sleeve version, as that's the classic look of the OST, but when this wasn't sold out after 30 minutes I ordered the red sleeved version. The yellow sleeve hasn't shipped yet.

This is only 2 tracks, but it's probably the best that will be released with whatever issues they have with the full OST - and original copies are going for more than I'm willing to spend.

Wendy Carlos & Rachel Elkind – The Shining (Music From The Motion Picture)
Death Waltz Recording Company/WaterTower Music – DW200, 2020/2021

Limited to 5000 on Red, Orange And Brown Tri-Color and the Red sleeve

Pressed at GZ

^ with all the Covid delays with the pressing plants, a lot of labels aren't doing the pre-ordering thing anymore and only putting things up for sale when they have them in hand ready to ship out.

I bet they were getting hit hard with "WHERE'S MY RECORD!!!???" emails....and it's only gonna get worse. In a zoom I recently watched some pressing plants aren't taking new orders as they are maxed out with pressing all through 2022 already.

I got the video cue'd up to where they are talking about delays...but the whole thing is pretty interesting.

Ryan Graveface doesn't say a whole lot...and doesn't seem interested in being there.

Radiohead - Pablo Honey
Good God! A Gospel Funk Hymnal

My heart always skips a bit faster in this collection play-through when I first come to a favourite artist and although this isn't Radiohead's best it's cool to hear their very quick progression. Plus, a fab gospel funk compilation from Numero.

Bill Evans – Behind The Dikes: The 1969 Netherlands Recordings (Elemental Records, 2021 Limited RSD Pressing)

Love this session and finally got a replacement for one of the discs that was warped. This one is flat but has an unexpected static sound in a couple of places thats annoying, but certainly better than the other so I will stick with it. Amazing session though, fantastic playing.
