The Collection Playthrough

Catch-up post from the long weekend (Part 1)

171- Lynyrd Skynyrd (Pronounced 'Lĕh-'nérd 'Skin-'nérd)

So, for a while I didn't really understand why a lot of people tried to upgrade classic rock pressings or why people really dug LS - this kind of cleared up both of those for me. This is just an original copy as opposed to like a MoFi or audiophile pressing but it sounds really dang good and I can only imagine how much better it could be. My GF makes me play it when she wants to hear Free Bird so I'm happy for the clean copy.

172 - Of Monsters and Men - Fever

A 50% off B&N pickup, and another band that benefits from the medium with their bass reliance and cool vocal work

173 - Lee Perry - Reggae Greats

This was a reasonably priced used comp I grabbed at one of my local stores. Honestly, not really my jam. I wanted to like it more than I did but my ear is so untrained on Reggae in general that I think I'm missing elements of it.

174 - The Kinks - The Kink Kronikles

Ignorance alert, when I first say this in the antique store I kind of thought...this may not be appropriate. Then I realized it was the band and not something else and was like...ohhhhh. Yeah this is a blast. I'm going to go back to this one a lot, just chock full of catchy clever songs.

175 - The Mynabirds - What We Lose In The Fire We Gain In The Flood

They should have been bigger IMO. I remember hearing the song Generals when it came out and it stayed on my rotation for what felt like years, and they never really took off as a band. I found this in the same antique store as The Kinks and figured for $4 it was worth a flier. I love their big sound and powerful fee. It's a band who knows who they were and really delivered. I bet you can find a copy of this for under $10 and have a great time

176 - Madonna - You Can Dance

Cool listen, I don't have any Madonna in my collection and it's one of the very small number of full LPs I have that don't have song breaks. They are distinct songs but they flow, it's a different experience but I liked itPXL_20210922_153705650.jpg

Herbie Hancock - Inventions And Dimensions (Blue Note, 1964 First Mono Pressing)

Playing this belter. Its really unlike a lot of his other albums, with much more aggression and percussion. Not a bad thing by any means and the Latin influences are really fantastic. A killer one for sure.
