The Rough Guide to Blues Legends:
Blind Boy Fuller
The Rough Guide to: series is excellent. Blind Boy Fuller’s brand of Piedmont (North Carolina) Blues influence on rock and roll can’t be understated. Led Zeppelin were fans and The Rolling Stones named their first live album “Get Yer Ya Yas Out” after a Blind Boy Fuller track, included here. Cream “borrowed” some lyrics as well. This one’s been digitally remastered to great success to reduce/eliminate noise from the 78 rpm discs used to make this compilation. Blind Boy Fuller died young and didn’t live long enough to see the invention of magnetic recording tape.
Many say this is their strongest effort, and Kashmir their strongest track. I wouldn’t disagree.
This album found them playing fast and loose with songwriter’s credit- again. “Boogie With Stu” was credited to “Page, Plant, and Mrs. Valens”. It’s really Ritchie Valens’ “Ooh My Head” and the band wanted Ritchie Valens’ mother to get some money. The gesture didn’t work; they were sued by Valens’ estate anyway. The funny thing is “Ooh My Head” was itself stolen from Little Richard. It started as “Ooh My Soul”.

Waxtime Pressing
Waxtime pressings aren’t the evil some will have you believe. Inexpensive and pressed well- certainly better than GZ. They don’t sound bad at all, especially considering mine have averaged $13 or so.
