What's Spinning

The Re-Stoned - Stories of the Astral Lizard

I'd been on the hunt for a copy of this for a couple years and narrowly missed the last couple times it was repressed. Finally found an inexpensive copy from a sale in a little UK shop. Weeks went by without it shipping so I emailed and the guy wrote back that he "just got married and am on a honeymoon busy shagging the wife" so he fell behind shipping stuff out. He didn't need to email me while in the act, but that's the kind of quality customer response capitalism demands these days. Few more weeks went by and it slipped my mind until it showed up today! $20 shipped and I was fine waiting. A very chill record and it has a slight edge over volume two which just came out a couple weeks ago.

Walter Davis Jr. – Davis Cup (Blue Note, 1972 Mono Pressing)
The Horace Silver Quintet - Doin' The Thing At The Village Gate (Blue Note, 1961 First Mono Pressing)

I realised that it would have been these 2 pianists' birthday in a couple of weeks time so it seemed as good a reason as any to listen to some of their music. The Walter Davis Jr is one of the rarer Blue Notes to find in its original pressing. It was released in 1959 and wasn't reissued until BN released this copy in 1972. The Horace Silver was a surprise purchase that I made a few months ago when away on a long weekend.
