oh man
i haven't even thought of this album in years
brb i have to go listen to it with my eyes closed lying on my bed with my head hanging off the side
This is a magnificent album and a gorgeous slab of wax. Had to spin it again immediately after my first spin. Easily moving into one of my favorite pickups for the year.
Johnny Jenkins - Ton-Ton Macoute! I was ecstatic to find a a super clean OG copy of this in the “new arrivals” bin at my local over the weekend. Discovered this record while exploring the world of 70s Southern Rock and Capricorn Records. Jenkins influenced Hendrix, played with Otis Redding in the Pinetoppers and was sampled by Beck. This album started out as a Duane Allman solo project (most of Duane’s guitar playing stayed on the record) but after Duane abandoned the album to instead form the Allman Brothers, the album was turned over to Jenkins who made the most of it by adding his own bluesy vocals.
