What's Spinning

Record #2 ~ 65daysofstatic ~ One Time for All Time (released 2005, vinyl released 2016)

Hold a gun to my head and ask me what my favorite genre is and I'd 9/10 tims respond with Post-Rock. As my love for EITS grew I began to venture out, with the help of edonkey2000, limewire ect, my digital collection of Post-Rock expanded at speeds an iPod could not keep up with. During that learning phase I found out about 65daysofstatic, this album One Time for All Time, was an excellent follow up to The Fall of Math, and in 2016 when they issued this on vinyl for the first time I knew it was something High School Bliss needed in the collection. What helps set 65daysofstatic different from their peers is their heavy use of electronics to help create their soundscape, heavy doses of tempo changes, frantic guitars welcome you into their world, and by the end of the album you are left wanting more. One of those albums that is hard to describe because of how much is going on, they take on a variety of genres and display their true musicianship, a group of 4 talented dudes that helped push the genre of Post-Rock into the future.

Pressed by Monotreme Records this album was limited to 1,000 copies, 500(black)/500(cream).

Record # 3 After Argument ~ 时间的皮毛 (Furs of Time)

IMG_20200105_122155.jpg

Debut album of Yang Haisong(P.K.14) vocals/guitar and Zaza(Eyes Behind) drums post-punk venture After Argument. Furs of time is full of distorted guitars and pounding drumbeats that feed the lyrics the angst it needs to get it’s point across. Sung all in Chinese, Yang Haisong takes what he does best, creating vivid lyrics that force the listener to think about what he’s singing and puts it on full display as he, in my opinon, talks about the angst the youth is facing during the rapid growth of China’s economy. Two different worlds, one world exploding with lavish riches, and the other being a dirty void of poverty being forced into hiding. How do you tame these two forces, while we may not have an answer After Argument pushes these questions out to the masses hoping that together they can create a world where all can have the opportunity to grow as they like.

“you get into their world accidentally,
they say, “we’ve seen you on Justice Rd,
you were dressing like an angry youth”
you say, “yes, that’s me,
awaiting the next train coming,
in the midst of two platforms,
in the midst of two worlds”

saw the light of youth fading
someone considers the universe as the philosophy of decoration
and the woods tangled with dreams
ceased since summer came

this is like the beginning of the nightmare
this really is the beginning of the nightmare

Pressed by Store Records on the Share the Obstacle label based in Beijing, this is an album that is not easy to be introduced to but for any fans of Yang Haisong will certainly be something that needs to be listened to. Nothing more but a guitar and some drums and some gritty lyrics After Argument creates a debut album that requires further listening to understand what’s going on in the underground of the Chinese rock scene.

Argh no! Never! If I start stripping my records and throwing posters boxes and extras in the bin I hope someone slaps me! Never mind his propensity to actually throw records themselves in the bin too...
I'm actually kind inspired... I might just toss boxes in a closet and just have just the records left on the shelf...
Il let you into a secret which still baffles me to this day. I've seen several copies of Rihanna's 'Anti' goes for £90 on discogs. I bought this 8 album box set, which also includes a slipmat and really high quality book AND includes the same copy of anti......for £90.

Even now the box set can still be easily found online for around the £150. Cant understand the logic of 'Anti' being that much but still....

Yeah honestly I want a copy of Anti- but the box would be nice as heck too

Thats not the Nathan way though, into the cupboard is cheating, you’ve got to throw it all into landfill. Also those records you don’t want anymore, where do they go? Charity Shop? PIF? Sold? Don’t be silly, landfill. Basically buy, consume, landfill. Thinking is discouraged.
