YEAR END MEGALIST 2019

I add a track from every album I listen to over the course of a year to a playlist so I can keep track, then keep a general order of stuff I really like at the top, stuff I still need to check out at the bottom.
I do this also. I have a folder for albums I've liked. I have a playlist for songs I liked. I just need to go through them - they got a bit unwieldy.

this is basically what I do as well. I put 3 songs from new albums on a playlist...usually a single I've heard, the longest song and the end track.

I spend a lot of time in the car, so it's usually put on shuffle until something grabs me that day and then I'll give the album a thorough listen.

Idk how y'all do this.

For me the trick is to start the list Jan. 1 and work it all year.

Every Year, Jan 1, I start a new Spotify playlist for the year. New releases of interest to me, releases of greater interest within the popular culture (even if its not my bag), anything recommended to me (here or IRL) and the occasional release where the cover art demands I listen to it go into the playlist. When I get tired of any particular release, it gets removed from the playlist. By the end of the year I have all the singles/EPs/Albums that were my favorites from the year.

This year that playlist is 368 songs/24 hrs. 26 min long. This will get whittled down over the next week before Jan 1, 2020 and will be the playlist for my NYE.

Ok... after multiple drafts and going back and revisiting some albums (and listening to one new one that dropped a bomb on my list at the last second) I think I finally put together a top 15 that accurately sums up my year. Spreading the points across the list in a way that reflects my feelings accurately was a pain but I think I managed it. I'm happy with this list at the moment, although it won't be long until I start debating with myself the positioning of certain albums over others. But if I don't post it now I'll never stop tinkering with it... so for now consider this Gap's 15 favorite albums of 2019!

Haha I don't mind the point stealing, especially since I think you're the only other person who has had 1000 gecs on their list! If there's more that I missed please make yourselves known.

I had it on the first place actually, but changed my mind in the last minute

I'm also reeealllyyyy happy to see some more love for Kim Petras.

You should definitely give Dorian Electra another chance!

Yeah that Kim Petras album has been really overlooked. Really one of the finest and most addictive pop albums of the year! I just wish it would get a vinyl pressing 😭

I'll put Dorian Electra in my list of albums to check out. As with every year, I'm sure I won't hear some of my favorite albums of 2019 until we're well into 2020. I'm so late to the party on a lot of stuff!
