Your Fave is Problematic

And if you’re in the mood for more schadenfreude, the author of the VF piece “explains” himself:

Can’t tell if he’s deluded or a troll, but he claims his writing was deliberately bad, to take the heat off Britt and McCarthy. 🥴
Holy shit this is making my skin crawl.

It’s andindependent uk based journalism site that is attempting to provide an antidote to media conglomerates and push slow news and detailed commentary rathet than a cycle of breaking fast news.

I’ve read a few of their articles down the years but have little feel for whether they’re truly reputable or not.

More about Gaiman and Palmer - she’s not much better :/

Yeah, he's a massive piece of shit. The child abuse and concurrent assault is horrific and Palmer is awful too. I enjoyed both of them and this sucks, but he belongs in an institution and that is probably a prison.

Man, that was a difficult (but important) read. Gaiman has been one of the biggest and longest standing literary heroes in my life and his public persona always seemed so genuine. Reconciling over 30 years of fandom had been, and continues to feel, daunting and heartbreaking.

It's a major gut-punch for me as well.

EDIT: which sounds trite in the face of what all those women and girls experienced!

What does it say about me that I don’t find any of this particularly surprising? My favorite writers all write some fucked up stuff and it only makes sense that they are fucked up as well. It makes me wonder if they all have secrets they are hiding and whether or not I would read them if I knew. There’s a part of me that knew about Gaiman and it explains why I was never able to finish The Ocean at the End of the Lake.

There’s also the part of me that hopes he gets the help he clearly needs.

This sums up my feelings pretty well too. I hate learning about the lives of artists I like until they're dead.
