Your week in music (last.fm collages...)

06B5D091-E3D5-4D49-9327-D1E94372BF90.jpegWell, the 1001 album projects have officially overtaken my listening. So outliers - Kylie was the pitchfork Sunday review and Sessa was the @Ghost album to live with. They both got very enthusiastic daily listens. Nickel Creek is due to the announcement and for some odd reason, this being the one that got played enough to make the list as opposed to Dotted Line or By My Side.

And like I said above, a very interesting grid.

Breakdown
Now that the 1001 Albums challenge is going to be a huge undetaking over the course of the next two and a half years, there should be classics in each weekly 4x4.
Thank you to @gaporter for the The C.I.A. plug; the first release that has a shot at my year end top50 for now. The ambient/avantgarde jazz record from Mette Henriette is also a winner. John Cale, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Boldy James x RichGains, and Odisee are all varying degrees of enjoyment. Enjoyed the Samia singles that were already available in the form of an EP; looking forward to getting around to the album later today.

My January

It’s fascinating how much of this is taken up by the various listening projects. Wonder how that will be a few months from now when there are multiple new albums hogging my ears.

Breakdown for those that care:
3,6,7,13.14 and 16 are all because of the two 1001 projects.
Dirt and the Stranger are because of the Opis.
Massive Attack and Sessa are @Ghost
Kylie is pitchfork Sundays
Punch Brothers, Fernandez and Tuttle are things I really loved from last year.

January!

Don't know why I've decided to make Thursday the day I post these but why not? Some favorites from the 1001 Album Project make an appearance; meanwhile, I've been on a Lemon Demon kick since Needlejuice has released remasters of his first two albums and the new Arcs is my favorite thing Dan Auerbach has done since... well probably the first Arcs record.

Breakdown
I didn't listen to too much new music last week.
I enjoyed the new Ava Max record more than I could've ever expected. It's not quite a Future Nostalgia level leap like it was for Dua Lipa, but there were quite a number of songs that I enjoyed from Diamonds & Dancefloors. Really liked Samia's newest, too. Jonah Yano and Kimbra had some solid projects as well.
As for 1001 Album challenge, my favorite from last week was The Police's Synchronicity, to my surprise.

I mean, I've always done it on Thursday because New Music Friday and also because then it lines up with the last.fm report for the week.

Mostly some vinyl spins this week. The Kelly Lee Owens album "Inner Song" still is so good, also Björk's "Volta" is really excellent. I've been listening to the Young Fathers album, which was interesting, parts of it reminded me a bit of Santigold. Nina Chuba is a German pop/ rap singer and her songs are better than I had expected, also lyrics wise.
