Your week in music (last.fm collages...)

Man, classical and Spotify is a combination that will wreck havoc on Last.fm. You think having an album show up multiple times is annoying? When a release is named after the work and the composer is listed first (or possibly as a root from what I can tell) you can have multiple albums show up as the same release.

Example: Chris Thile's "Bach: Sonatas and Partitas, Vol. 1" shows up as an album with Bach as the composer and that title. So if you search that title on Spotify, there are quite a few releases with that same title. Most of them by violin players, because that is what the music was originally written for... so while Thile isn't Perlman or Podger, he also is playing Mandolin....

Week 22 recap

This was a rather rough week as our bunny got sick on Saturday and has stopped eating (its finally getting better) , so I didn't come around to listen to a lot of music /new releases. Had been to the Slut concert on Sunday (still need to write my review) and Charli XCX on Tuesday. Apart from that listening to a lot PJ Harvey. Need to catch up with recent new releases soon.

My week

Breakdown

CMAT should actually be second but the record didn’t scrobble correctly. Really tried with this BCNR album but I’m just really not clicking with it at all. Outside of them Cabaret and Chicago were my main obsessions after watching them on Monday. I would listen to Cabaret until I was too sad and then move onto Chicago to cheer myself up lol

Week 23 recap:

Breakdown
Listened to a few new goodies. I think that the Horsegirl album is fun and catchy, though not quite excellent. Angel Olsen's newest is solid, will be revisiting a few more times. Not listed here as there aren't enough tracks, but the EP from EPROM & G Jones titled Acid Disk 2 is my favorite release I listened to last week; SOPHIE fans should really dig it. Also enjoyed the Umi and (to my surprise) Orville Peck releases, too.
Playing through the collection a bit more, almost at the end of the "I" titles. I'll be on vacation this upcoming week, so the collection playthrough will be halted for now.
Had a fun time at the Rochelle Jordan concert last night; not one of my favorites this year however.

Week 23 recap

Listened to some newly bought vinyl records (Rosalia, Amber Mark, Charlotte Adigéry and Sharon van Etten).
Of new releases the Horsegirl, Angel Olsen and Drive-By Truckers albums are solid and I have to revisit them. The Tom Aspaul album is light fun and included a cover by an Alizée song that made me revisit her first two albums that had been written by Mylene Farmer.
Ego Kill Talent is a Brazilian rock band I've seen play on a livestream of the German Rock am Ring Festival last weekend. I'm enjoying it. Geese is a post punk band from New York, for whose concert in Cologne tomorrow I've won free admission. I don't think they're as good as Squid or Black Country, New Road, but looking forward to see them play. AJR is an Indie band so far unknown to me that was brought up by a friend. Apart from that some albums by Tori Amos, PJ Harvey and Pet Shop Boys.

All four of the new releases are great. Still obsessed with this Gregson Bach Recomposed which led to the Yo-Yo Ma (my personal favorite version) and the other Cello Solos is not the one pictured but the Casals (widely considered the greatest ever). All three aren’t straight readings and are highly emotional. Rounding out with some other Cello music and some harp music.

Week 24 recap

I had bought the Geese album at the merch of their concert in Cologne last Saturday, the vinyl sounds pretty good and it's a good album. Tove Styrke is a nice listen, not a superb pop album for sure, but solid. Of recent releases I also liked the Vory album which goes into the Hip Hop direction, but with an interesting instrumentation.
Apart from that some classics. I've listened to a lot Florence + the machine this week. Her new album keeps on growing for me, I think it's among my favorite new releases of Q2.
