Your week in music (last.fm collages...)

Week 25 recap:

2022Week25.jpg

Breakdown
I did not post last week as I listened to an inadequate amount of music during vacation.
I highly recommend both the Yaya Bey and Artificial Brain records as of recent, they are standouts of contemporary R&B and death metal for the year, respectively. Otherwise, not much else that was overly impressive, I did enjoy the newest from Grace Ives and Neneh Cherry. Continuing with the collection playthrough, almost finished with the "I" titles.

Provinz is a German Indie Rock band that I had seen during the livestream of the Southside Festival last weekend. Their songs and lyrics are pretty good. Having been to Black Pumas and Foals last week makes their albums show up. The new Foals is as good as their recent albums.

Of relatively new releases, I enjoy Thom Yorke 's project The Smile, Monophonics and Mysie. Ethel Cain is very interesting, it's an album that doesn't click immediately for me, but I can see its quality and need to spend more time with it, most likely it's a grower.

So COVID hit my whole family with me getting it last and wiped out our beach vacation. I didn’t post but have the last three weeks plus this week, month, q and half year. Comments on the last four.

Love the new Jack Johnson. Nicky Egan is great, RIYL Kendra Morris, recent N&G ROTM aka @debianlinux (cd), Gold Experience is still great even with the I Hate U maxi added, Reverend Baron is kind of like Jack Johnson and Rudy de Anda made an album together.

Classical and old faves dominate. Harry Nilsson is becoming an obsession.

I expect Andrew Bird will place higher than Monophonics in spins and ranking at the end of the year.

Week 26 recap:

2022Week26.jpg

Breakdown
A solid week to close out the first half of this awful year (outside of music). Really enjoyed the Petrol Girls, Regina Spektor, and Zola Jesus albums. Also dug the ambient record from Loris S. Sarid, Perfume Genius's bizarre experimental art pop work, and the last from the ever-consistent Lupe Fiasco. Harry Style dropped a sorta by the numbers pop album. Sigrid released an unimpressive one. Finished out the "J" titles in the playthrough played the first few "K" titles including the Japanese ambient boxset above.

Week 26 recap

This week I've mostly listened to Alec Benjamin and Slayyyter albums as I've seen both live. Apart from that some checking out of recent albums. Winona Oak, who I've seen as support of Alec Benjamin yesterday night, has some really good songs on her album, I've enjoyed it. Neneh Cherry is fine. I remembered that Manchild was one of the first modern songs I've ever heard when I started to listen to music in the summer of 1989, being 11. Obongjayar was interesting too, I also liked The Range. Will try to listen to many recent releases the next days to finish my Q2 chart.

Week 27 recap

So this week I mostly had spend in bed due to the Covid infection I got last Friday night. Now I'm mostly recovered again. First two days I wasn't able to listen to any music because of headaches.

Of new releases the Alice Merton album was solid, Yaya Bey a good RnB album, TV Priest was very enjoyable. Perfume Genius very experimental, so I need to spend more time with this one.

Apart from this I've enjoyed listening to Beyoncé and Missy Elliott again, as to the great sounding vinyl of Patrick Wolf's 2009 album "The Bachelor" that I bought from Discogs.

My spinning has been down since I got it a few weeks ago because energy is gone. Also, I'm fairly certain I'm dumber now and as you all know, I ain't the brightest bulb in the sky.

Breakdown
Got in a bunch of last-minute new release listening on Friday. Two that stood out well to me are the Moor Mother and Felicia Atkinson records, both are strong candidates to rank in my top50, especially the latter. Akusmi, Sessa, Momma, and MUNA are also worth your time. Otherwise, been on a tear trying to playthrough the collection; currently in the middle of the "L" titles and will finish them by next week.
